i believe its because the image is well rendered, but it falls flat in terms of appeal.
the image is generic space marine #124101, and the piece doesn't tell any story. the guy is awkwardly staring into space with a blank face standing in front of a couple paint streaks. he has a knife with blood on it for some reason next to an unrendered hand but that's just more confusing, why is he posing awkwardly having stabbed someone? why does none of his other equipment have blood on it?
i mean the image itself isn't really bad, its probably more of a rendering test than a finished piece, but from what i heard i believe a guy got told pyw, and he posted this, and the guy who got mogged started shitposting about it to spite him

It's been years and I'm only just now really noticing how stupid all the individual elements of the armour actually look. They are rendered well, and taken together they sort of blend in to a bland, unassuming whole, but actually examined individually everything looks so stupid. What is his pauldron? Why are the thigh plates so tiny? Why is there no crotch plate? It's kind of a tender area. What on earth is that knife holster thing just dangling there? It would be impossible to use that in a combat situation, why couldn't he just look up what a military knife holster looks like?

The blank stare and bored barista pose are bad but man ive never really noticed the armour before. It's like it was designed solely to look sci fi and not like something actually useful.
