Why are you thinking you're making some kind of point by using Touhou? Yes, the art isn't that great, but the music is astounding and the world is interesting. ZUN did the gamedev equivalent of "just draw" and made one of the most recognizable Japanese media franchises to date.
People don't make it because they're just talented at art. People make it because of their hard dedication, word of mouth and being social. If you're consistent and put out content where people can see it a regular basis, you will make it, assuming you're above average in at least one area.
