>be very small/unknown artist and want art friends
>have a very keen, early 20s follower, he has like 10 times the number of followers than i do (i have roughly like 40 followers, and he has 400+)
>obviously appreciate their support
>end up following them back because why not
>they message me every time they see me online/have any kind of activity
>"ok they seem nice..."
>they mostly complain about how bad their art is and want ass pats instead of actual critique
>any time i say anything remotely close to a critique, they talk about their depression and whatever
>their art is pretty /beg/ not gonna lie, but they want to make a career out of it
>now i just wanna be left alone, this guy makes me want to abandon my account so i can start over without him following me

what do you do in this situation?

Stop being a bitch.
Tell him "Yo fag, get the fuck out of my life or else I'm going to rape yo ass, nigga".

Anon, you do know you’re not legally obliged to reply to them right? If your art and marketing is good enough you’ll surpass him anyways and meet better people.

Pull the same card and keep saying you're not feeling well and don't want to talk. You sound like me. I've held too many one-sided conversations wherein I felt too rude not to feign interest. Talking to another downer sucks. He's probably lonely. Not sure how to help, but if you slowly stop messaging he'll find someone else

well here's the thing... he looks up to my art and thinks i'm a really good artist and kind of puts me on a pedestal. i don't want to be a jerk. i don't really care to surpass his followers, but i feel like if i lash out or something, he will tell his 400+ followers that i'm a huge jerk or something.

>>5239449
yeah i'm kind of doing this right now and phasing out my presence and activity and telling him i'm busy. this guy is persistent though, i was gone for 4 months due to personal reasons, and he still messaged me on christmas and new years and other random days to ask how i'm doing.

abandon your account
40 followers isn't much and you can build that up quickly with fanart and a consistent upload schedule

doesn't look like a bad option atm honestly, especially if i upload the stuff i had on my account weekly as updates.
what are the chances they will find me again if i repost my old stuff but just under another name? can i get away with that?

That's why receipts exist anon. Just make a collage of your interactions and post it if he starts beef. Of his 400 followers, very few vocals will actually care about the drama.

It’s worked for me, it’s not hard to make ‘friends’ online anon you can always find new people.

take it from me, who was like (you), learn to deal with it now. what if it happens again? what if he does find you? if you are nothing but fair and honest with him nothing else matters. if you're a dick to him when you eventually blow up because you can't handle an awkward conversation now, then it can be used against you. but 400 followers ain't shit anyway, chill

ok considered.

i'm pretty boomer tier and not really good with numbers on social media, 400 is a lot to me i dunno.
alright fair enough, if i articulate honestly about how he is not making social media fun for me, then i can screen cap it as a receipt in case he tries to slander me or freaks out.

what receipts? that OP was a bully that ruthlessly tore apart his drawings when he was just sharing with a friend? that he was ignoring a poor little depressed boy during a tough time of his life?
that's how his fanbase will perceive it.

you either keep on doing this and phase him out, because he's eventually going to pick up a new guy to dump on or you give him the ass pats he desires and reap the benefit of his followers

>>5239423
you only have 20 follower, just nuke your account and start fresh. take this as a lesson to not interact with others. also 400 is not much and he probably has mostly bot following him.

>400 is a lot to me i dunno.
Good guideline is to consider 10% of followers as actually interested and engaged in your work and the other 90% as mostly apathetic passerby or bots. So out of his 400 followers, only 40 will actually care.
>>5239530
>his fanbase
400 followers is not a fanbase, it's nothing.
