how, and through which way did you guys started gaining money with your art, i don't care if it is COOMART for weirdos. im trying to make just a little bit of money right now and am focusing all my drawing time into it
what is the best platform to take comissions? i tried jobs at devianart, but the competition is way too big for my artwork to get any atraction.
Do i first need to have a following in a platform? basically no one sees my art at the moment, should i try to pursuit the devil that is the algorithm?
and if so, what is the best platform? (twitter, instagram, reddit, devianart, tumblr, newgrounds, any other that im not aware?
how did you guys made it? i really want to know, because if it is impossible im my conditions at the moment i'll just stop trying and focus on improving my art and work on a comic/manga or something like that, and drawing for FUN, because i like drawing, but i love and need money.

Looking to go from 0 to commissions if you're in desperate need of money isn't feasible senpai. audience isn't everything skill is involved, but you need eyes on your work to get commissions. If you don't have any platform constructed then, unless you're professional teir, you won't be able to hook anyone.

Honestly, for the quickest and dirtiest money, go to /d/ for commission thread. Pick one, deliver and also put your social (whatever you decide) with it advertising you're open for commissions. When I decided to try out lewd art I got a couple of commissions that way using a pseudonym and an under-developed Tumblr. I got maybe 2-3 commissions over the process of a month maxing out at around 150$. I dropped the project after getting upset at my skill level and not finding the topic that interesting to draw. I still see my monster high futa frankie posted every now and then even though that Tumblr got nuked and it makes me smile.

I currently make no money off of my art but I am much happier picking whatever topic or style interests me while I fill out a portfolio. It sucks though, I want to work on something and have my art be seen by others

I did mean their draw thread but there is also a commission general if I remember

You're slightly below where I was skill level-wise when I did what I did, but you could still potentially get a few. Looking back, I can't remember if I posted on /d/ or /aco/. go between /aco/ /d/ and even /h/ for their commission threads or draw threads. More eyes on your work.

So what I did; Going through the draw threads requests I picked a character I liked and filled out the request, and shilled my socials in the response. The guy was grateful and other people chimed in too. after a few days, I got a dm on my Tumblr. And that's how it went down. It's important to note I actually put effort into joining their art community, talking to people, getting to know other artists too. They're pretty close-knit

Depending on your degeneracy threshold, there are some people so starved for content that the quality can vary wildly. One thing I will say is, draw what you're comfortable with. The viewer can tell. If you go all out drawing inflation while you think it's a gross fetish, people who like inflation will be able to see the difference and will be turned off. I like futa, so drawing futa requests was a no brainer

I don't have many files from back then but I managed to dig up the frankie I did. This and maybe 3-4 other images were all I had on the tumblr when I started getting commissions. if you can push yourself to hit this lvl (you can definitely if you use ref and do daily gesture warmups) you can get work

godspeed anon

Here's my commission page too, if it helps.

I want to re-iterate something I said before. only draw coom if its what you want to do, and you like the content. People will tell if you're trying to fraud your way into commissions. When someone commissions you, it is because they want to see YOU'RE take on something, generally meaning they want you to bring your passion into the work your making. you can't fake that. In some ways, I was. Thats why I dropped making coom to pursuit the type of art I really enjoy. There is no cheating in becoming a coom artist, you just become a coom artist. If it seems like too much work, then it will be. And depending on how financially stable/ unstable you are, you might be best off looking for a dayjob. Because at the core of it all, art is not a good way to make money. You can make money from art, but its only a good time investment if you enjoy what you're doing while you do it. It seems like common sense but I figured i'd repeat it

occlusion shadows get weaker in points where two objects come in contact. since drawing or inking is basically recording occlusion shadows, the lightweight becomes weaker at that point and heavier where there is shadow. anon, you won’t be making $150 a month, and your progress will stall because you’ll be busy shitting out requests for losers who don’t want to pay you
draw threads are a cesspit of botspam and literally any garbage gets praise and pretend-thanks because they don’t want to poison the well, they’ll shower you with empty praise, and the worse you are the more they go out of their way to praise you
I sometimes purposefully make awful deliveries (and I mean like barely drawing the oc and twisting the letter of the request and making to focal point a black guy’s asshole) and the response is usually “haha not what I expected but thank you” and whenever the guy actually calls me out on shitting on his request, he gets swarmed by faggots telling him to be grateful an artists spent his time fulfilling his request and telling him to fuck off, it’s the most reddit thing you’ll ever see, it’s all passive aggressive bullshit where they’ll thank you and then repeat the request 2 threads later hoping to get a better delivery
the worst part is that it’s unironically 50%+ bots mass requesting, all the regulars know it and it’s the cause of a lot of drama and shitflinging
the better moderated boards like /co/ have mods and jannies actually following the threads on occasion and you’ll see 100s of requests being deleted in the archives
/aco/ has several autists you’re wasting your time delivering for, and most drawthreads function by ignoring the resident spammers and autists, nut you won’t be aware of them
drawthreads are where shitty artists go to die, just don’t do it

honestly, you’re better off joining a community you genuinely want to be a part of and building a following that way, this is soul sucking and the requests are fucking garbage 99.9% of the time
in fact 90% of them are just repeats until someone does them
I did pic related because someone asked for android whatever as a kirby character and I thought it was funny, the next fucking post was empty platitudes with a can you do her as rayman with the limbs detached haha
the thread is just autists chasing an endorphin rush when they get a delivery, then they just make a new request for the next rush, nobody gives a shit about who you are, and people commonly shit on you for shilling your accounts even though it’s in the rules
I’m not saying don’t work on it, I’m saying don’t build an audience of autists and retards, you want people who pay, not people who spend 6 hours a day asking for free drawings
reddit is unironically great for getting people to follow you because people look at your post history and see you naturally interacting with the community and want to support you because you’re one of them

OP i went from $0 to now making about $600 a month on Patron NSFW commissions over a timeline of about 2 yrs. I started slowly posting work out there (nsfw sites/tumblr/twitter) and gained a small following (niche fetishes, feminzation etc). Got $50 commissions every now and then. Then, did some editing/animations for a nsfw site. They retweet me sometimes, it helped a lot with exposure and slowly grew everything. The thing that made it explode from about $150 a month to $600 was I put the drawings/animations into a clickbased visual novel that I built with python from literally watching youtube tutorials. This whole timeline though took about 2 yrs of slowly building it up.

BUT will tell you lately things have been a bit difficult, patrons have flaked out on me and doing nsfw will wear you out if you dont take break. Dont come to rely on that money, so in your situation I would definitely get a part time job and fuck around with whatever kind of art jobs/freelance stuff that is out there. sfw is ultimately better, but the bar is higher too
also note that “drawing whatever you want” is only viable if it’s appealing and what other people want too
honestly, you won’t be making money either way, you’re asking for the equivalent of making money with music when you only know how to strum two chords, it ain’t cutting it
you can only hope to make money in spite of your skill, not because of it, by providing content, be it a story, something other people aren’t offering etc
despite popular opinion here, there’s no shortage of pornfags who can’t draw offering dirt cheap commissions, just look at /aco/s discord
I’m also not buying you not being able to find a job despite looking, I found a job last week in a 14% unemployment country, you just don’t want to work

yeah just draw what you enjoy, i liked making nsfw and still do but not every single day. some of the patrons I got in the recent surge expect content every day and its wearing me out. If you want to build your art social media following (nsfw or sfw) use twitter, running promos on instagram will get you nowhere if you arent able to game the algos or do whatever little tricks you have to do to stay ahead. Find ways to market yourself like, do contests people put out, join a discord server and lurk and grind, follow the other people on there to get a network, etc etc, even try reddit if you have to. BUT dont expect success to come soon. I've watched a lot of other people grind and put in extreme effort and get burned out. >>5235629
No. I make 0 out of my sfw art. I have only ever received one commission that was sfw, and it was years ago. This is despite having decent interaction with my posts and a following base of 1k (still small in the scheme of things). I'm not complaining since I don't promote coms, but the option is always there pinned. and have never received any inquiry about it

With my experiment, I made more in 3 or 4 months drawing low-quality coom than I have in 6+ years of sfw. I guess I was just lucky, from what I read since I left I guess NSFW commissions are more difficult now than just posting in lewd threads. I didn't mean to misguide op, and I'm glad other people chimed in. I think the most important thing here is that OP finds a niche of art he likes making and sticks to it
