IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Sticky document:

I think the shadow in the bottom rocks are way too dark, it looks like a 100% black which is something you don't want in your painting.
I did a quick paintover as a total beg to painting, I just changed the black to a ~95% purple and smoothed all the shit, it doesn't look good but it looks better I guess.
maybe fucked a bit too much the edges so I put some studies i did a while back which capture a bit more the feeling of rocks.
also the light blue on the top side of the rocks looks weird, I tried to darken it but I don't know if it fixed anything.
maybe this is a dull crit but I just wanted to say something because I think it's a dope ass sketch I hope you'll consider finishing, I especially like how you painted the transparency of the water. God speed anon

Aye, finally did the damn thing, some things I've noticed though:
First, even when I draw by the silhouette, I don't know where to start, I've found this problem generally worsen when every drawing I finish looks disproportional.

Second, I really find myself frustated when I try to draw enrichment shapes, the different perspectives from my eyes makes the shadows and highlights from various directions blend and make the thing a mess, will try to position the object further away next time to see if it solves the problem.

Anyone else with these kind of problems and any tips too?

For information sake, this is my project 1 - E from the Keys to Drawing book. Yes, I'm still in that book and I will try to finish it this year, hopefully.

P.S: The reason I've done a plastic bottle instead of a tinted glass one is because the only tinted glass bottles in my home are cold, as they are constantly condensing the air around them, they change properties when I'm drawing, so I went for that one instead.

arm and leg proportions are wonky and inconsistent, when doing this try to do a full body every time and factor in proportions. the breasts don't really adhere to any form, they don't sit on or wrap around the ribcage.

keep drawing, do a shit ton more, then do a shit ton of studies too and take notes and bring that back into your imagination figures. don't wait for feedback on just a handful, there's a lot more mileage to be had and with observation you'll figure out yourself where things are going wrong

i will praise you wholeheartedly for drawing these from imagination though, many people get stuck copying refs and don't have the balls for a long time. you've breached that wall. keep going and refer back to reality to ground them

Doubled of real picture size on monitor, because thin lines looks better when they are scaled down from thick then when they are drawn thin, sketch in 50% scale and line/details in 100%. Maybe only my soft issue. When I uses another soft and won't think I use 3000x3000 with fit-to-screen for sketch and 100% or 200% scale for details. When I draw for fun or quick studies it's always real canvas size on monitor in pixels because it's not supposed to be zoomed.

What is the best way to practice drawing in perspective? I learned all kinds of perspective and I can draw well all kinds of cubes. But drawing in perspective grid always feels off. Should I draw from reference? And if i should use what kind of reference should i use?

Drawing on the grid is for architects and people with styles so realistic you'd notice straight away if the perspective was anything but. It feels off because artists have been cheating with perspective for so long you start to question it when it's actually right, you've probably never seen real perspective except on 3D models or technical drawings.

Take spheres : people think they're immune to perspective, because "duh, no sides", and just get smaller the further you get from them no matter. they'll start cringing if you use anything other than 1-point and draw them stretched as they should.
or the side wall in pic related : perspective on the planks is technically correct but a ton of anons on /co/ screamed when they saw that and called the artist a hack the other day.

I feel there's less things that can go wrong with refs. Sure, sometimes you fuck up proportions, angles or shading, but you usually don't start guessing shit and drawing arms with a dozen extra muscles, faces with anime tier googly eyes and such.

I did this thing today, and while almost everything is wrong, without ref that lady would have 3 arms, a giant ass, and one of her breasts would be bigger than her head because I have no fucking idea what a naked woman actually looks like.

Might as well post this here too
>Look at pic related
It proves that you CANNOT draw from life without first being able to stylized something first!

People are seething over at my thread because no matter how many times I ask them to prove me wrong, they cannot because i am right about this.

You cannot make a face look good WITHOUT stylizing it (unless you paint it or give it realistic shading that takes hours).

This is why beginners draw like pic related. It's because they dont know that they HAVE to stylized. You have to.
You can't just jump into drawing from life. It's a waste of time.

You have to first learn how to stylize what you want to draw before you can actually draw that thing from life.

Feel free to provide any counter examples. I'm willing to debate but I won't take seriously any gaslighting comments.

What???
How is this common knowledge?
I learned this from Robert Beverly Hale and it only now just clicked for me.
It made me realize that I have been doing everything wrong and that I was completely wasting my time drawing from imagination and trying to figure things out 'by chance' when I literally could have just observed another artist and how he draws specific things.

beg here, I think you are focusing too mush on the outlines, see >>5228705 how the lines go inside and overlap each other, that helps to describe the form better

>> No.5232386

>>5231966
real life don't have lines, so in a sense you can say that draw with line is a stylization. but the type of stylization that people tell you to not to do if you are a beginner is distortion of the anatomical features. I personally don't agree tho. I think it is fine as long it is very abstract, like fun with pencil does. but if it is something more subtle you are just crippling yourself. it is much easier to learn to place the eyes in a real head, for instance, because it is easier to see the mistakes.

Uzaki is something like 6 heads tall, anon seems good on that one, and I don't think we can just expect coom to be accurate to the source material so much. If you want them thicc or to make one of them smaller because that pose would never work otherwise, just do it.

Using the side of your pencil rather than the tip will give you more control over the values which allows smoother transitions, softer shadows and you won't have a scratchy texture. If you compare your picture to the photograph you can see that you screwed up the values of the lower background section under the chin. They are supposed to be darker than the values of the hair and there should be a visible hard edge between chin and background. Top part looks good, value-wise.

I hope that helps.

Basically the upper body is very stiff, particularly obvious with the arms. But then the pelvis has to be huge which you can get away with, but you've had to break her legs to get them into their current position.

With the Herny pic you've posted, you'll see that the spinal S-curve is still prominent even though it's straight, but the clothing adds curvature. You've accomplished that with the lower half, with the flow of the skirt looking good, the anatomy is just a little too broken to be masked.

that's just my opinion tho.
