IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

After watching him for 5 minutes, It seems his method is mostly the Loomis ball and plane thing, but extends the planes to make a box. the box is probably just a simpler way to divide the face in 3 along all sides than eyeballing Loomis with perspective thrown in.

Using photos gives you a distorded conception of how lighting works, since most photographers use artificial sources or carefully plan their scenes around natural ones.

That's why you're supposed to stop using porn for reference after a while. Take pic related, they're clearly using one or several giant spotlights pointed straight at the actors. That's cool when you keep that in mind, but at some point you want to go have anal sex with Alena Croft in her bathroom yourself to see what it really looks like, since unlike a photographer, you can do whatever the fuck you want with the light sources and it still works, you don't get colors blending because the scene's too dark, weird lines because the flickering neon sign in the frame fucks with the CMOS matrix in your camera, lens flare because you're facing the sun and other things.

Just got a ball with drawn lines (or 3D model) and ref from it. With practice you start think in 3D and see wrapping lines. Also ball helps when drawing heads from different angles from imagination. Also there is a geometry based way to draw an ellipse on rotated sphere but i'm to tired to draw, simple find it in Robertson (maybe hot him) maybe in cylinders chapter. Googled again, it's how it works on cylinder, same for sphere, you should know camera angle.

For almost a year, I've been drawing with a static size brush (i.e., it always sticks with the same size) that changes opacity depending on pen pressure, and I have some difficulty getting textures down (among other things).

Not him but it's not as if it matters if he learns anatomy now or later. Gesture is just basic lines to convey movement, and can be learned independent of anatomy.

Figure Drawing, Design and Invention teaches this premise anyway to learn gesture first and anatomy after. Not sure why you feel the need to look down on someone because they don't conform to your narrow minded perspective on how you should learn what and when.

That being said >>5216704, I recommend design and invention by Micheal Hampton. Your gestures do lack some of the underlying basic structure and movement. I'd learn the basic construction of the figure (basic as in not specific anatomy) and then apply that to gesture. You'll find your stuff should improve provided you dedicate and apply yourself.

>i want to learn how to start applying gesture to my art.
Studying good drawings of the body will help a lot here. You'll need to learn how artists show gesture once the "restrictions" of form, anatomy, and proportions are applied to a drawing. As such, you'll also need to spend time studying form, anatomy, and proportions as well.
Gesture will be something you develop over time. I'd also suggest doing some longer drawings like the other anon said. From there see where/when your drawing loses gesture/stiffens up. Identify some of the culprits and study examples from other artists that do it well.

>i always found that even when ... copying a pose outright, it looked like garbage
This isn't exactly high art or too closely related to what I was talking about, but Plague of Gripes has a fun video that's related to this issue: https://youtu.be/7wz6PgP8PBU
Generally, the silhouette of the human body is often unflattering. He gets around this by using more appealing proportions, but you can apply the same advice by using better gesture, or shape design, etc.

whats the fucking difference between /alt/asg/draw/salt and /beg/ i have seen dome low borderline beg tier drawings on these gens and they get told to go back or just flat ignored, so are you only allowed to leave beg when you master the fundamentals, but then again once you are barely above beg you get told to fuck off from here but you aren't a master yet so you don't have nowhere to go.....this is so hard on us.....HIGH BEGCHADS!
