This has been my best portrait to date because of art block but I've done some good watercolor stuff. What about you guys?

Does the portrait have to be of a real person in a realistic style? I've done portraits but my style is very American comic-books/anime.

I made this one earlier this month. I know I've posted it before, but there are rarely any threads that my artwork is relevant to, considering I don't draw coom or anime.

Not that anon but a good book on painting for beginners is Jack Faragassos "The students guide to painting". The method taught is oil but you can apply the same basic rules to other materials/formats. Read, peactice and apply what you learn and eventually you'll see massive improvements in your work. The pdf is pretty easy to find online if you want to give it a try.

No, the airbrush has a fine grain, so it's sort of "misting" onto the canvas. It's part of why I've never switched to another program; I can't find another brush that achieves the same effect.
If you do digital art, then see about adjusting the grain in whatever airbrush your program has. Also see if you can turn on Pressure for Size, and reduce flow to about 23%.
