I found this huge hunk of shale, and despite my dad's comments to put it up my ass, what should i do with it? I'm thinking of making/chipping away an isometric scene, like a beach, or a castle on the beach? with like palm trees?

very fine grained. can be split into sheets and rectangular sticks. many uses. turn it into powder for pigment. add water to the powder and you have clay for pottery. draw with it if it is soft enough. if you have a large enough piece you can make a traditional chalk board that you can draw on so you don't wast paper on fundy grinding. that might have been slate, which is similar. you can sharpen blades on it. carve away some jagged looking thing and put it in a terrarium so your lizard can larp as a dragon. some people (women) munch on this if it is soft enough. use it as a palette for mixing stuff on. look for fossils sometimes embedded in them. turn them into tiles. use flat surface as a fire-resistant surface for torching metals in metal working like when soldering or annealing. many fun uses.
