PYW is perfectly reasonable and serves a critical function on this board.
Every day, deeply conflicting advice is given to people on how to draw. Grind your fundies, draw for fun and learn fundies intuitively, draw copies of other people’s art, don’t draw copies of other people’s art, learn anatomy early on, save anatomy for later, do everything at once, never do these specific things or you’ll get bad habits. It’s impossible for a /beg/ to know who to trust. So when someone tries to give advice on how to learn how to draw, it’s natural to ask them to show that their own advice actually worked for them, and that they’re not just another asshole spouting off unjustified opinions. Without seeing concrete results from different people, there’s no way to sort through all the conflicting advice.
The only valid reason for not posting your work is if your work is recognizable and you don’t want to be associated with 4chan. Which is perfectly understandable. But even then, I would expect it shouldn’t be hard for most people to find some random unpublished drawings they could post here.

The amount of crabbing that goes on here is overstated. When people post good work they get complimented for it. There are lots of positive posts on /ic/. Granted if you’re in the middle of an argument with someone then they’ll be predisposed to shit on your work regardless of how good it is. You’re trying to turn this into a complicated thing because you don’t want to admit that pyw has value and is a very natural thing to ask anyone who’s trying to give you advice on how to do something. Yes you have to do some thinking yourself, if someone posts a masterpiece and said “I got to this level by drawing for 5 minutes once a week so I didn’t get burned out” then they’re obviously bullshitting you, but still looking at someone’s work is an important piece of evidence for how good their advice is.
There have also been no valid reasons given in this thread for why board culture should discourage pyw beyond “I don’t want people to be mean to me”.

do you REALLY think that people who are good at drawing want more competition?
do you REALLY think that people who are good at drawing really care much to teach absolute begs how to draw?

teaching beginners in a helpful manner is excruciatingly difficult and not for the feeble minded which is why most of the critique here amounts to "Loomis" or "needs more anatomy" because going further would be too taxing on anyone

but the thing you need to realize is that the best artists are usually the worst teachers (Kim Jung Gi, for example has literally one of the worst courses I've ever watched) while some of the best teachers are usually OK artists
no one would hire them for Disney or Blizzard but they are definitely out of /beg/

so what we really want here is not someone who is really good at drawing but someone who can consistently give advice that causes people to improve--which is something I have not seen on this board (you could argue that your gains diminish or become stunted when you listen to advice on here)

personally, that's what I want and I know it's what most people who started drawing as adults want as well
