Hey /ic/ here are some heads i drew in about 2 minutes. I've never taken an art class outside of public school ( xd we can tell KWAB NGMI) and I haven't taken art seriously since like 8th grade, but i'd say im a hair above average when it comes to drawing. I feel like i was on the right path but my high school art classes destroyed any ounce of enthusiasm I had for drawing as I was never able to draw what I wanted and was pretty much banned from ever showing my face in the art hall due to incident with my ex gf. What is the most effective way to self study? Also I'll have at least of 15 hours of freetime daily for the next 6 months so I was wondering If I'd be able to see any substantial improvement in that time frame.

>i'd say im a hair above average when it comes to drawing
Your drawings there are identical to what everyone else posts on their first day in the /beg/ thread.
>6 months
Yes you can absolutely see improvements in that timeframe, but probably not as dramatic as you’re hoping for.

>> No.5201461

draw every day consistently, ramp up your hours from how much you feel comfortable /w and youll improve regardless of how you study
but good rule is to work on your weaknesses, draw from imagination then fix what was obviously hard from working from imagination. if youre new, everything is going to be shit so no matter what you study youre going to improve

>> No.5201544

You can improve significantly every single day as a beginner, if you put in the work.

Get the following books:
1. Loomis' "Fun with a Pencil"
2. Loomis' "Figure Drawing for all its worth"
3. David Chelsea's "Perspective for Comic book artists"
4. Framed Ink, vol. 1 & 2
5. Scott Robertson How to Draw
6. Scott Robertson How to Render

Copy the illustrations in the book. Draw objects/animals/environments you're interested in. Copy artwork you like. And most importantly: make illustrations/comics/animations. Your art.

time won't matter if you're constantly learning
don't even mark a starting date
just make sure you're learning something new every week

good curriculum but remember to follow what works for you. grab every resource if you can, just make sure to use them

got caught making out behind the school and teacher that caught us dragged us into art class and screamed at us in front of everyone. relationship was never the same and ended soon after. also i stepped in an ant pile and got ants everywhere in the art room for months afterwards. i’m still genuinely traumatized by what happened and have nightmares about it from time to time.

no, and don't listen to some faggot here
literally no one here can give you any sort of timeline because no one here has actually went from /beg/ to /int/
anyone here who is actually good was /int/ when they arrive and have been drawing since childhood and therefore cannot give you any realistic advice on how to improve

feel free to prove me wrong and show me your progress and the resources you studied from

>> No.5206107

>>5206017
well you're not wrong, i arrived at 4chan 1 year before gamergate and i'd say I was already grinding gesture drawings aimlessly 2 yrs before that and already at high /beg/ and now I'm around mid /int/ but this is actually where I learned a lot of things, gathered resources and found my footing to grind hard. It's all because of the image that has the book recommendations. The one with perspecrive made easy, keys, scott ro, loomis, skillful huntsman, gurney, etc.
You can lisyen to people here but not blindly , use your head. Just like when studying art. Ill post my work when I get home

This is shit advice. The only thing you should is literally draw, do studies, draw, make original works, do even more studies and just draw, as feng zhu said your priority when starting out should be building up your artistic confidence. taking that pencil and putting that line without the "I- I- need to- to make this the best drawing ever otherwise im ngmi" mindset that fills this shithole. be smart OP and find out what you wanna do then find out what you need to learn in order to draw the thing that you wanna draw and if you ever get stuck just use your brain and do research instead of coming to this detrimental crab bucket.

When I posted that I meant for those 6 books to last you a lifetime. You should just start with FWAP and sit on that for like 2 years, just doing studies (of objects/artwork you like) and making art. I should've been more clear with my time-table. But you do need some amount of theory. Just a little to get you started is really important, but grinding exercises shouldn't be the main thing you do.
