What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.

God I love the style of your work. The texture and colors are so rich.
How do you get so much texture? That's something I wanna try exploring in my process too, but I don't have a good idea of how to go about it.
When I look at the stuff you post I notice a lot of variance in your brush sizes, and the strokes look layered on top of each other rather than the typical flat look I get from brushes.
Are you doing some kind of layer method too?

Work on your facial spacing, everything is there its just gotta be rearranged.(Eyes are less than half down the head, nose too high, ears are the right size but because of the eye placement appear too large, Glasses are too small and shifted to the right too much.) Also pull back on the hatching near the chin she's got a bit of a stubble.

I don't post there much but I want to improve my style as well as improving my fundies. Based on my current style as of now, what are some artists you would recommend for character designs?

I am a big fan of 90s Capcom works, Everything designed by Akihiko Yoshida, N64 era Zelda games, classic Shonen manga like Rurouni Kenshin and Fullmetal Alchemist and Old School D&D. I am also a big fan of Moebius, Druillet, Otomo, etc. but i'd rather use the influences of these for mechanical, clothery/armor and enviroment design rather than how the characters themselves looks like. I am also a degenerate furfag and for diving into my other artstyle for coom I want to start studying the art of Dr.Comet and Sindoll/Cervina.

You have the tiniest hint of blues in there, I would emphasize those more so the browns have something to pop off of. Right now there's a bit too much variation to be monochrome but not enough to have the contrast it should.

Your rendering is quite nice, the problem is your choices of stylization I think. She has an enormous forehead and big, detailed eyes which are fitting of anime, but a realistic nose and lips and face shape. They clash quite a lot, I'd suggest bringing her forehead down and de-poofing the hair and that might solve a lot of it.

You need to understand going with the flow. Do not just go crazy, observe reality and exaggerate, develop a strong imagination for yourself. Many kids shows from the 90s-2000s like Hey Arnold, Ed Edd n Eddy, Kids next Door, Dexter's Lab, Buzz on Maggie, El Tigre, Spongebob, My Life as a Teenage Robot, were made by artists who are more on the cartoonist side rather than the auteurs of anime with joints and pelvises you see in idealized dolls. Learn how to freehand draw, don't over perfect the art, learn how to draw without erasing a lot, I recommend having a sketchbook with pen drawings only. if the drawing doesn't work then do it again. And again and again

The face looks worse than the body, I think because it lacks dimension compared. Tweaking the style of and sense of depth in the eyes could make a big difference, like I think the lighting you have for the eyes might be making them look matte instead of glossy right now.

Also the perspective in the background is way off. I think because it's implying the vanishing point is at the very top right of the image, way past the canvas.

I like the character design though. Also I think the rendering of the kimono is the strongest point, has this nice silky look to it, especially at the right sleeve there.

Ok so I had to look at the character as well as search up a bunch of image references to get what you're trying to get down. I know its wonky some places, but the key placement is there
The character is stocky in the legs, and has exaggerated feet
>In a shorter and close perspective like yours, we would barely see her ankles because she isn't very tall nor as thin in the hips like you drew her, as her legs look more lanky in your drawing

The only way you'd see her ankles is if the top down perspective was more spread out, however, the hoodie around the waist covers alot more than you may like. The character is designed to have bangs that cover the eyebrows, meaning you can't see them at that angle unless the wind was blowing a bunch. I know you were doing the whole "cute feet going inward thing" but if that was the case then the ankles would be more pronounced, so I didn't bother

I think as a whole the figure works really well, I've just got a small nitpicky thing for the legs. I think generally the legs don't pinch in at the knees quite like how you've drawn it here. Because the sartorius and gracilis wrap around and insert just below the knee, there's usually a bulging form that sort of blends together with the vastus medialis muscle on the inside of the knee. You sort of have the bulges already present in your drawing, they're just too far up the leg (or don't go down far enough). In my redline I've maybe made the bulge a little too large, but I hope what I mean makes sense. Let me know what you think
