IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Hello fellow begs , i have a question?
Do you consider the time you spend reading a book or watching/listening a tutorial as part of your practice time? , i been trying to make the most of the time i have to practice but i'm kind of annoyed that around a third of the time im spending it reading or listening to the resource/lesson and i find hard to call it part of the practice time, do you people start doing the practice/excercises right after listening to the resource or you do it on another time?

depends on the software you're using
any decent software will have a brush stabilizer, and you will need to learn how it works, it can be strange at first
you might also try the CTRL+Z/undo strategy
zoom out, find a curve, and try to do it quickly in one smooth motion on a new layer
didn't get the right curve? undo it and try again
do this really quickly over and over
if your tablet has buttons, it helps to set one to undo
that way you can build speed drawing the curve and undoing it

Nice progress! I like to draw, analyze and re-draw too.
You can flip the reference and your drawing to compare them. Or, you can layer your drawing over the reference and lower the opacity.
If you can't do either, just flip your drawing and the ref upside-down or hold both up to the mirror.
I also find working on something else then coming back to the drawing helpful to finding mistakes. You should look at the angles of his left eye and brow, on our right, it looks a bit off.

I looked at it once and thought, oh this looks amazing

on closer inspection, your lines are so wonky shapes are fucked up (the peak roof). did you even attempt to use a ruler or any sort of instrument to measure and keep your lines straight?? also just dont add pube looking seagulls to make up for a background.

your shading is decent but needs more work, the rock formation at the base of the building is good, but it feels flat and could use more broken up rock and ridges.

>>5187038
You're getting a lot closer. Have you tried drawing your reference upside down? It may help you see it for what it is, lines and angles, and break your visual bias. Try it.

>>5187135

YGMI for sure if this is actually like the first time you picked up a pencil since kindergarten. Generally city/architecture stuff is pure Perspective, for which there are a lot of resources. I like this one:

https://marshallart.com/SHOP/all-products/all-videos/1994-perspective-drawing-series/

But it costs $12 for the whole thing so if you're in punishing poverty you might look elsewhere.

The face is a bit too long, which gives the chin a masculine look. I repositioned the features a bit, and rounded out the jaw and chin. The hair was huge so I toned it down.

Your drew the neck very thick which also makes it look more masculine. All of your hatching is distracting and makes it more difficult to read the proportions and how the features interact with eachother.

How do you gain the confidence to draw from reality? I can't do it. I can only draw anime and cartoons because it's so easy and the lines are already defined for me and I can just copy.

Setting clear, achievable short-term goals helped me a lot. It's obvious when I spell it out like this, but putting it into practice is what counts. A recent example from me would be studying the forms of the pecs and seeing how they interact with the arm and ribcage. Then once I messed up I doubled back on studying how other artists simplified the forms, chose the interesting shapes they did, and tried to emulate it.
I feel like this "divide and conquer" approach to studying art is a natural way to learn how to draw.

6 months isn't a lot of time though. I wouldn't worry too much about it in general either, and I'd suggest not to compare how fast you're progressing with how other people are progressing too. There's nothing really to gain from it.

Is your nose really one eye width long from the brow to the tip? I would say you should measure it out and make sure everything is accurate.

Aside from that, your values are confused. You need to set them down solidly, start with the biggest darkest shadow shapes. Then break it up into a total of 3 or 4 values. From there you can blend.

I'm having issues where once I leave the sketch phase and add clothing the anatomy quickly falls apart and I lose track.

This reference isn't that great. Try and get one with better lightening. You could try one without glasses and then add them afterwards. Could be easier to nail down the features without the glasses blocking the view.

It's looking pretty good. The rendering needs some work.

Here I spent 20min on it. Are you using a soft brush to render? Feels like a lot of the values are just randomly added.

I used a hard brush here. And tried to block in shadows and highlights more. I moved the mouth and jaw up.

But like i wrote earlier,
