Hey can someone give me a run down on how this site is for posting, and is it viable for Westerners?

its good for me but if you don't understand japanese i imagine it would be pretty annoying. twitter is gonna be better for most people. if you dont want to go to twitter for political reasons... give minds, gab, parlor etc. a chance. they are worthless now but they have potential to grow.

Pixiv is like Nico Nico Douga. It is a Japanese site with Japanese structure and userbase..
If you understand the site the culture and care for the eyes that are already viewing it and are decent at your work then go ahead. Otherwise you will be just another idiot shitting up the search. There are enough weeaboos who think using the site will make them japanese and enough jackasses high on social media who think they can grow their patreon money by posting trashy fanart to the platform. You are likely gonna have to know some basic japanese to not have it just be a file dump or access any of the branch offs from the main site.
If you want a platform that keeps your images in the original quality, has a search the is optimized for finding new works, and a front page just use newgrounds.

If you are cool with all of that and think that is still what you want spend a month actually using the platform to figure out what it is about. It is not structured the way you'd think it does, they use tags completely differently, and the branchoffs integrate to the site in important ways.

If you draw anime girls, try pixiv. It has a bunch of features like streaming, commissions, selling digital manga, fanbox, it's an ecosystem for jap anime artists. Eventually the boorus/e-hentai will keep track of your stuff. But also make a twitter if you want commissions, or a newgrounds/hentai foundry if you don't like twitter. I have 17k followers and japs DM me TWICE vs a bunch of westerners.

Now my Question is, what if you draw Anime inspired Art, and you only do SFW stuff, would you be okay doing that on there?

it's like newgrounds. SFW and NSFW images are kept separated but easy to access.
People will see and like your anime girl in sweater dreaking tea, it's not like it's only has coomers there, it's very balanced actually.

Pixiv twitter in my eyes is the best combo. Pixiv for uncompressed works and all the things pixiv is good at, and twitter for a more casual experience. If you are smart you can steel clear of the drama and politics of twitter and just have a very comfy time there.
Newgrounds in my experience does not like anime very much, even western anime inspired works can sometimes not get as much love. The only exception is if you do retro anime stuff.
I didn't know hentai foundry was still functional, every time I accidentally stumble upon it it looks pretty dead.
>>5183670
I'm not sure how you got that sfw is a problem, if anything nsfw on pixiv is restricted.

no, just don't engage in them, unfollow political accounts, and mark don't show me this or that when you get politics. Bonus points change your trending to okinawa. I don't remember the last time I got politics on my feed.
Some people believe that its pin up or no follows, in my opinion that is a narrow view. If you don't think there is a crowd for what you want to draw try it or lurk around to try and find examples of this or that.

Don't DM japs, you can make fanart of japs artwork or OC and DM them in broken google translate that "hey i liked your art so much i made a western version and most of the time theyre just polite"

i made friends and art for a schizo azn that regularly posted schizo art thats not on there anymore unfortunately , they wrote back to my broken google translatE:

The most successful Western/non Japanese artists on Pixiv are the ones that you have no idea are gaijin. Short/nonexistent captions (done in Japanese if there are any) and actually good anime/manga style art (usually some East Asian genes come into play here but there are exceptions) combined will give you that. Some gaijin go even further and actually learn Japanese.

>> No.5184058

Probably will be ignored, although it depends on your comic ideas. If they are textless you might get some attention if they are interesting

So just don't write anything?, also do the pics have titles, and if so should I use Kanji for it?

>> No.5184081

>>5184065
Keep the titles short if you don't know any Japanese, but they should be in Japanese in the first place. I've seen Korean/Chinese artists put up silent comics that get good attention on pixiv. But half of being a creator on pixiv is sharing your love of anime/manga so don't be afraid to make fanart, as it will help you gain a following as well. A bunch of mangaka start out making doujin (sfw) or fanart all the time before getting publishers. Some even get picked up because of their fanart.

>> No.5184085

>>5184065
If your style actually looks like anime and not western anime then you can use Kanji, otherwise no

some ideas to save this drawing:
1. give link a bishonen face, try until you nail it
2. people only care about the master sword
3. this is a boring stiff pose for link, add a different theme to it, like some celtic stuff. Add textures on the computer if you don't have patience for detail yet.

I'd say it's perfectly fine to use Pixiv as a gaijin. I don't even hide the fact that I'm not Japanese by using English on both of my titles and descriptions, and my works usually get to top 10 daily and weekly ranking. Also a lot of Japanese companies and individuals contact me for work.
