Is DA a good place to post, or is it just a thinly disguised fetish site?

>> No.5179470

>thinly disguised
It's a full blown fetish site.
But you want to upload there for presence but don't make it your main hub.

>>5179452
It's better designed to get you starting attention without you having to network basically at all, which is the main contrast with Twitter. But there are less people there. Twitter really helps you get known quicker eventually, it just depends on the people who follow you and retweet you. I feel Twitter is like a curve where you feel like you're not noticed until you are and then it picks up speed. DA, not so sure.
>or is it just a thinly disguised fetish site?
Also yes.

Okay thank you, do you know if there is any point to getting core?

So would you say just use as many sites as possible, for as many chance for your work to be seen? also what do you do about the more "interesting" people on the site?

There is no point in getting core unless you're doing business on the site.
I wouldn't recommend getting it if you're starting out.

Been on DA for 15 years until now. Fetishy and annoying people are easily ignored, but to be honest, the UI changes killed it for me. Not returning.

Hard to say, but it heavily depends on what you do, even then, if you want to market your stuff you should use all the socials you can manage; take my words with a big chunk of salt though
>Twitter
If your work is just flavor of the month/anime/gacha/average weebiness/lewds
And use it to actively engage with your audience/redirect them to your work on other pages or gallery/patreon.
You want to post at least twice a day there.
>DA
Use it to post your work and redirect to your other socials. If you're drawing fetish, use it as your main hub.
The site has been overtaken by fetishists.
There are still other works and other big artists on there but they all just post for presence and to redirect to their other stuff.
>Artstation
You don't need to be a pro to post there, but if you want to get noticed easily by studios or actively look for jobs in the industry, that's where you want to go.
>Instagram
If your work is normie-tier
>cutesy stuff
>studies
>edgy stuff etcetera
go there.
Post your work, build up a gallery, use the rights tags and redirect to your other socials.
Don't bother yourself with staying active.
>Newgrounds
Use it like IG. Build up a gallery, make sure your work has the right age restrictions and tag your stuff appropriately.
If you animate, do lewds and porn that is heavily stylized/cartooney you want to be there. Other stuff goes well, too.
But always post finished work.

I personally enjoy NG because the users don't shy from giving you feedback.
Your work can be rated which can help you see if you done good or bad and it can get frontpaged as long as the work isn't "Adult" (because that stuff doesn't need help getting noticed).
It's heavily focused on artist and even non-artist actively use the site.
>Hentaifoundry
If you do the coom, go there.
>Furaffinity
Pretty self-explanatory.
>Pixiv
If you exclusively do anime or have a distinctive anime style, go there.
>Youtube
If you have your process vids/timelapses, it doesn't hurt using it.

>What exactly are the UI issues

At least on my surface pro, part of the new DeviantArt UI is completely unresponsive to both touch and pen clicks, so I'll need to plug in a fucking mouse if I want to read and reply to messages or browse the comment aggregator. Which means that I pretty much stopped interacting on the site. I still post art, but it's not that fun anymore. Also the new UI makes it difficult to find anything and looks horrendous (too much brash colourful stuff overpowering the actual art).

I notice a lot of people on NG get 2-3 star averages on their admittedly-pretty-shitty videos and drawings. Should I feel good if NG consistently gives me averages in the 4-5 range, and majority over 4.5? Because I know /ic/ will just say I'm a ngmi /beg/ so long as I don't draw realism. I already know I need to improve, I'm not going to stop working on that. But I want to know if the NG quality threshold matters. If your art sucks sucks will you really average 4s?

>> No.5181013

>>5179452
if you post there you have to cope with the fact that you are sharing a community with people who draw every possible fetish imaginable, and its not a small portion of the site, i would definitly not apply to a job with a deviantart portfolio

It's better than social media (twitter/etc) for having an actual gallery format with organisation and proper descriptions for your uploads, but it does feel quieter than it used to. They changed how the front page works so I've seen less blatant fetish art lately but the UI changes are questionable and sometimes unintuitive. Pages can be slow to load and for some reason they made some things harder to find or require more clicks to get to than they used to - though I've never tried to use the site on a tablet so I can't say how it is on mobile.

If you just want a simple gallery with proper uploads/descriptions, it works fine for that! Twitter/etc seem to move faster but they're not designed to display art without compressing, so it's nice to have somewhere a bit more suitable even if you don't become a socially active user.

I don't mind doing this but not after I just asked a stupid question anon.

>> No.5181710

From my own experience, you only get bad ratings if your work is really, really low quality or you fuck up your whole upload;
>really worse than beg work
It means really, really beg work like in the undiscovered section
>unfinished work
>wrong age restrictions
uploading porn/lewds as E
>wrong tags
>low effort stuff
And it seriously depends on your subject matter.
4 Average is good around a 5 votes average, but do not read too much into it.
People give a lot of 5 stars simply because they like your work.
If you have some sort of mistake in it that /ic/ would rip your head off for, it usually defaults to 4.
That's if you're just starting out on the platform and you have no real following.
If your work is good and appealing, that should automatically translate into fans.

Take a good vote as evidence that you did alright on that work.
