The only acceptable ways to learn figure drawing is vilppu and possibly also hampton. Learn it anon and learn it well.

Stop trying to help these sad sons of bitches, they deserve nothing but contempt.

My favorite part is when Vilppu is explaining some part of the figure and he's lightly runs his finger against the model, desperately holding himself back from grabbing a handful of titty or cock

Ah, a fellow Nicolaides gentleman. These petty quarrels about which second rate imitator is the best second rate imitator are quite droll, are they not?

I wouldn't say that hampton is vilppu for dummies, but he explains things better than vilppu does.

Did Vilppu learn from Walt Stanchfield, the Disney animator? I read Stanchfield's book (60 year old lecture notes) and a lot of the stuff from Vilppu's drawing manual is in there with a suspiciously similar style

>> No.5124244

>>5124217
No. Walt Stanchfields books aren’t for beginners, or for learning drawing in general. They’re notes for progressional animators who are studying acting and action analysis, so he doesn’t explain construction or other basic stuff

it's the other way around. walt stanchfield cites examples from vilppu in his book. vilppu taught at disney for years.

for the person who knows anatomy but doesn't know how to simplify the major masses of the torso?

>> No.5129161

Just how early can I get into figure drawing? I started Vilppu's drawing manual and got stuck on the box part, went on to learn perspective and am getting pretty good at drawing boxes at any angle. Think I need more practice aside from having drawn shitty fanart in the past or is that a meme?

>> No.5129200

all boxes are used for in gesture drawing is orientation of forms

>> No.5129211

>>5129200
I know. I was wondering if it's normal to hold off on figure drawing as a lot of people call it an "advanced" topic. Sure I could benefit from practicing more basic things first but it seems a lot of people have an immediate interest in drawing the human body, so I can't imagine everyone waits forever.

>> No.5129227

>>5129211
no reason to wait honestly. there are some relatively simple (but hard to master) concepts like gesture and shape that you can start with. it's going to look a little wonky at the start but that can be said about any kind of learning. eventually you will run into problems and naturally raise questions that will lead you to learn perspective, tone, ect.

learning art is mostly done through doing it and only following courses/books on a need-to-know basis.

Thanks for the advice anon.

Im doing vilpu's drawing manual videos and I feel like I'm not really learning anything that i haven't learnt before.
all I'm learning is how to construct like him more.
i know about wrapping forms, anatomy, construction i know all this shit, all I'm doing is just changing my construction and drawing method to his.
I feel like i should give up too.
i can't spend over an hour just watching a video.
i have to take breaks.
