my brother wants to learn how to draw and it seems like he has unrealistic expectations and i am not sure what to give him for resources. he couldn't even do a blind contour drawing of his hand before i explained how to look at his hand and he's already talking about anatomy and color theory and whatnot. the only idea i have currently is drawing on the right side of the brain and have him read through that and watch some vilpuu figure stuff where he uses a chamois. he's a complete and total beginner so i don't know even know what to give him. i am letting him borrow a sketchpad and a graphite pencil set, a charcoal pencil set, a chamois, some erasers, etc. i have supplies i can let him use but i don't know what to give him to actually learn how to use any of it.

i guess that OP was a bit vague, so i will explain that what i am looking for specifically for resources are which books i can either pirate for him digitally or he can find at the library, or good youtube instructors he can watch that start from square one

Loomis it's a staple for artists, and can be easily pirated. I skipped it due to the memes and am now reading it. I think it's going to help pull me out of /beg/

Tell him he's shit until he goes through the paper that is. Just teach him how to fish for the resources.

when i said he's starting at square one i mean square one. what i've instructed him to do so far is to sit down for an hour every night with a stack of paper and just blind draw his hand from different angles until he gets bored of that and then blind draw some objects after that and do that for a week or so. he really is at square one he has little to no established hand eye coordination for how to draw lines
