I agree.
The current street art movement is on the way out.

Also we are becoming oversaturated with murals.

Kitsch is like a bad joke.
The set up is derivative and you see the punchline coming a mile away.
And even though you guessed the punchline, you can't help but cringe when you actually hear it.

90% of resin pouring would fall into kitsch.
Actually, i think the hypergloss of resin always puts a work closer to kitsch.
I think resin can still work on some pieces, but it borders on bad taste in the same way black velvet has been discredited.

>> No.5107895

Well it's not quite a punchline.
The problem with that specific piece is that it is taking common things we all know. Elvis, Ar-15, and fisher price. And somehow it manages to be less than the sum of its parts.
It pretends to be art.

I've thought a lot about art and writing my ideas comes off a lot better than the drunken rambles i torture my friends with.

For fine art, at least, It's important to know about art history and theory.

You'll know exactly how to justify any bullshit you want to pull off and it will help you find direction.
If you dont go somewhere on purpose, you'll end up nowhere on accident.

do you have a blog? i would love to see /hear you speak more.
you're very opinionated, but its because you're knowledgeable and intelligent, so its very interesting to hear how you process things. i get the impression that you tend to see things from a different perspective than most, because your creative mind and strong personality allows you to think outside of the box.

honestly, i could picture myself listening to a podcast or video essay by you. i think you would be very good at that kind of thing.

i think you should really start a blog, even if it does only feel like inane rambling. really, i think you should do much more, but a blog is a good starting point.
you're a natural critic, and your personality is expressed beautifully through your writing. you shouldn't waste your talent on channers when you could be speaking to much more intelligent audiences. with the gifts you have, i think you're capable of much more than this website.

the power balance is firmly slanted towards government and corporations. "power to the people" implies "restore the power balance so individual citizens have an equal impact on the world we live in", but i think you already knew that. they are not diametrically opposed, but mutually inclusive.

>> No.5109424

>>5109382
what I wanted to refer to actually was equality between people, not equality between the state and people. Because thats what I believe that picture wants to mean.

some people are weaker, some are stronger. That means you need the state to even out and help the weaker ones to create equality. But if you remove the power of the state, it wont be able to do that anymore, and inequality between people will rise.

So in other others, you either have equality, or give power to the people. You cant have both. You cant have your cake and eat it too.

90% of all art can be called gratuitous dog shit made for easy consumption for the masses, which is the closest definition of kitsch I've been given.
Wanna know why we don't call all art kitsch dogshit though?
A. Because even kitsch art has appeal.
B. Because it would be kitsch in itself to dub all art kitsch no matter how appropriate.

Obviously. that's the whole point. The fact that it's so vague just allows it to mean "thing that I don't like." It lets you insult someone and implicitly praise yourself by saying you have good taste and they don't.

This one by duchamp is almost inventing kitsch.

Everything does have the potential to become kitsch. If it becomes popular enough.

It's why one guy can tape a banana to the wall and make the news.
But the banana idea was so shallow that it was almost immediately over. It's not like you can tape an apple to the wall and pretend it's a new thing
The idea of taping an apple to the wall after seeing the banana is an example of the creation of kitsch. You get it?
