Scanners thread
What a good scaner for your drawings should be?
I'm thinking about buying pic rel it has 4800dpi

Easier to take a cellphone pic in most cases, would be cheaper investing in a camera set up and some good lighting if you want to digitize art, especially if it's any larger than 8.5x11.

ok boomer, do you need a diskettes thread as well?

>> No.5102726

This board truly is retarded. Scanners are always going be the preferred way to digitize art. Highest quality, no undesired perspective tilt, consistency across scans, lighting won't interfere with quality. Then again what can you expect from people who think you need a $500 piece of equipment before you can draw.

Yes, although the image is going to weigh a lot, I have a 3600 dpi hp, I don't use all the dpi, Photoshop fixes almost all the defects. by the way I was born in the 90s, I hate how images taken with a smartphone come out.

If you're just digitizing it to work on it further on a PC then yes it is easier you fucking idiot. OP didn't even say what they were using for, why are you assuming they need "highest quality". If you just need to put a sketch in photoshop it IS less time then scanning.

and NO scanner will scan above a4 for 100$. NONE. Not even used. If you have something bigger, and still on paper mind you, you'll spend much more time scanning in pieces and stitching back together.

and chances are, THEY ALREADY HAVE A PHONE. I'm saving him money you dullard.

I prefer trad but digital is cheaper in the long run. If you go the trad route and don't already know what you want to do you're going to spend a shit ton of money buying and trying new tools, or maybe that was just my experience

I never bought everything at once, and I avoided trad tools versatile with realism only like carbon and chalks. I used whatever I bought to make small commissions, so it never felt like a big useless expense. I do have a few buyer remorses tho, like markers. That's my experience so far

How in the fuck? What could be easier than slapping your sketchbook on the glass and pressing a button to make an image file appear on your computer? I finish my illustrations digitally and got an used scanner for 10€ just because getting an accurate picture with no tilt or lensing and getting it onto the computer is such a hassle.

hi OP, I used various HP, Epson and Canon scanners. They are all good. Most new ones are LED based while the older ones have a CFL tube for lighting. Most of the ones which are included with multifunctionals are LED and use a CIS sensor which scan only flat pages and even half a milimiter above the glass, ie wavy watercolour surface, will cause out of focus patches. Older scanners before ~2008 and some Epson dedicated scanners use a CCD sensor which is preferable for art and is not as sensitive to paper waving or bending.

LED: can be cooler light hue, no warm-up time
CFL neon: old, slower and needs warming-up

CIS: sensor slightly lower quality in fine detail similar to noise reduction, lower dynamic range (most multifunctional printer scanners and many inexpensive dedicated scanners such as this Canon or Epson V39)
CCD sensor high quality photo image (all older scanners and some dedicated Epson scanners such as V600)

For drawings/art resolution will mostly be 150-600 dpi anyway so even a 1200 dpi should suffice. Epson scanners can auto stitch A3 using the over size function.

Finally, CIS/CCD differences are very fine, this Canon still produces a high quality image, the CCD Epson is just slightly better.

when you go for high quality digitized art, a scanner is the only option. For comparable quality only a $50k PhaseOne 150 MP digital back and elaborate studio lighting can compare.
