You are definitely heading in the right direction. Keep doing what you're doing, drawing form on top of form, except at a finer and finer scale. Pull up a figure model photo and draw from it for 4-7 hours. You're not copying, but you're drawing it in deep detail, building form on top of form on top of form. You are copying, but not really. You're copying it 3 dimensionally. Run cross-contours over it and change the lighting direction if it helps.

The tablet constantly sends out a signal and the pen picks up these waves and pings back with position, tilt, rotation, and nib pressure. Nib pressure is simply the nib pushing on a small barrel that covers a copper coil, when the coil is more exposed it sends a higher power signal back. When the coil is not exposed it is sending a weaker signal.

What operating system and tavlet driver version are you running? Did you recently update your drivers or install a new antivirus?

Are you able to open your tablet drivers or are they refusing to run? The screen still turns on, yes?

It is worth it to speak with support about it, they might be able to help you troubleshoot or send you a new stylus potentially. Did you drop your stylus a lot or crush it? If so you may have broken something, it could be worth buying a new stylus from Amazon and testing it.

roaches will eat glue between book bindings and dust and all sorts of shit to survive. They can also survive up to a month without food, but only a week without water. People focus too much on putting food away if you have an issue with bugs, the actual thing you need to do is get rid of all water sources overnight in you dwelling. You want to dehydrate them out, and they will go. This means completely drying the sink and not leaving wet dishes out overnight, making sure your bathtub and sink are dry if you took a shower before turning in, and not leaving half drunk glasses of water out.

I have a Win7 computer with a Wacom Intuos and a Samsung tablet. I enjoy using both, sometimes alternating between them for the same piece.

Been using Medibang because it has a cloud storage gallery that lets me open files from either device without hassle. Issue is, I don't really like Medibang as much as Sketchbook.

I am not at all interested in an iPad or an Adobe subscription, which seems to be the only other alternative that allows me to just swap between systems. inb4 >why? For a myriad of reasons, just pretend it's not an option.

Sure, I can Dropbox the files between or just transfer them through USB cable but when I do this, the Android versions of the program can't find the files even when I put them in the correct Android directly... or in the process of switching devices, the file's layers get merged/flattened. I assume this is due to a difference between Windows and Android file formats.

Is there a way to open a Sketchbook file I made on my desktop to my Android tablet? I feel like this is a super simple thing that I can't get to work and it's driving me nuts.

It's explained in the sticky.

It's when you draw the symbol thats in your imagination for something instead of just drawing what you see in front of you. You are drawing what you THINK an eye looks like, however it is not what an eye ACTUALLY looks like, because instead of observing measuring and drawing the forms, you are just putting down what you "know" which is either weebshit or an almond shape with a circle inside it.

Try upside down reference drawing exercises to fix this.

just going off my own struggles, it seemed like a more general form of people being literally unable to see that the eyes are the center of the head even after confirming it with measurement

set a very definite border for your drawing and for your ref(crop if only doing part of photo or viewfinder). Then periodically stop working, take in your whole field of vision, and reference the parts against the border instead of just against eachother.
having a much wider frame of reference made it easier to stay consistent and fit things onto the page. helped a fair bit with the auto-flattening of overlapping and foreshortened objects too.

Lately I’ve been trying to smash the refs I would normally use for studies together. Like, I’ll think “ok I wanna do this character in this pose in this location with this sort of lighting and this art style” and pick a ref for each. There’s still plenty of creative decisions you can make from there, but planning out stuff beforehand helps jumpstart things and is honestly kinda fun

Thanks, will give it a try. I notice that I often struggle to fit things into shapes, whether it be features on a face or the figure on the canvas, even though I try to measure things out before starting. If I just start with features it ends up being more accurate :/

Are there any good ways to practice drawing arcs/line control in general without it being dull? I'm doing the Aaron Blaise perspective lessons and it's used the straight line tool until this lesson where I needed to draw a circle in perspective. Turns out, I can't draw an arc to save my life and had to retry like 40 times. I got better towards the end but they were still pretty bad.
Also I've heard people talk about line confidence where you should move decently fast so your lines aren't wobbly, but he was just drawing the arcs pretty slowly, is that just because he's been drawing for so long or something?

>re commissions
specifically nsfw ones. I've only done a couple so far and I guess this is a good thing really, but the people commissioning me are super vague, they just say they want their character in some outfit and leave me to it. I send a sketch of a pose asking if they need anything changing and they just say it looks good. do they feel bad about criticising? do they just want their oc drawn, doing anything, period? should I send a couple of variants as quick thumbnails for them to choose from instead? do I care too much?

You should do majority artwork and minority studies, I think. Just my opinion, I know other teachers will say differently (like Feng Zhu). But Glenn Vilppu said he just studied 1 hr a day and painted for the rest of the day, and he also said drawing from imagination was the best way to practice drawing, so I think you should just go ahead and do your imaginative work for the majority of the day. Let your studies follow your work.

well, fundies are less rules than they are observations. good art usually has good fundies, but may be in different ways than you'd image... like a wiggly contemporary art drawing might have 'bad' anatomy and 'wrong' perspective by ic/lord standards, but be a good drawing because it has striking composition. art is subjective
