F YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH!

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

Which courses should I go with?

I might want to do more than one at once, so I can pace one more normally and rush through one or a couple others. I have some other standard ones too, but these should get me good.

I am having some technical issues working with large images.

The images are for print, and must come out almost a meter square and I have no idea how to manage them.
I spent a week trying to make vectors but I don't know how best to approach this.

I create the images on photoshop- but struggle to vectorize them, it's arduous and goes on top of the work already done on photoshop.
Then I have to work out how to print the vector image across multiple sheets of paper- something which I assumed wouldn't be an issue but is.

I tried making the images directly in vector- but they contain photo elements and I just can't eyeball them no matter how many times I try

the body looks pretty good, expect for the shoulders and the head. make the deltoid much bigger in correlation to the angle. especially the left deltoid, it needs to be bigger to make sense in how close the the angle is to the anime girl. the right deltoid should be mostly hidden but still should get increase in size. secondly, the head, the head is quite fine but doesn't make sense according the neck and the chest (two big landmarks you should use when making the head.) in this pic, the neck looks too wide for the head. either, make the head bigger in coordination of the neck or make the neck smaller(which will look like a kid with a mature body, to which if ya like then i aint judging.) if you make the head bigger also make sure to make the hands bigger. you can get away with slightly bigger hands then you can with a slightly bigger head that. make the hands the length of the forearm, not the volume though remember that. the hair is suffering from the small head so if biggify that head that will fix that. honestly, art isnt even beg its more int with beg mistakes. get those beg tier mistakes out of your habits and you will make a fine artist anon!!!!!

I really like it. If I could fix anything is probably smooth out her jaw, it seems a tad bit too long. If you cover it with your hand it looks good.

In terms of lighting/painting you should consult your favorite artists, try to watch speed paints or look at a reference. I think you understand painting to a degree, you just need to look at references now. Your light sources seem kinda all over the place, make sure you have a united light source for your picture. Your background feels a bit flat, so for now just don't worry about it and paint on a toned canvas.

It looks good so far!

The thing that sucks about learning to draw is that stuff like form and contour can be defined and explained to you, but in my experience many of those concepts have to be experimented with and put into practice until you build an intuition and things just “look right” or they don’t.
You can make the jump from gesture to figure drawing whenever, but the results will be ugly until you’re more comfortable with form. Vilippu sensei will show you the way.

As long as you are drawing and using your brain, you will improve Akechiposter. All Vilippu and other teachers are doing, is teaching you things you would learn on your own with practice. Trust me, the day you finally draw something you are really happy with the dopamine release is something else, and totally worth it. Just keep drawing and taking in new information. Analyze both your own art and other people’s art to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

proportions and anatomy are completely fucked. honestly I would just call it finished and try to tone down your noodle body "style" for the next one. honestly there are so many anatomical and proportional flaws the best way to get you to see them is to tell you to draw her naked and see what I mean. also the nose does not need those left over sketch marks on the bridge, the hair makes no sense and is seemingly just wherever you felt like putting it. the head shape is totally wrong, needs work again on a structural level.

your polishing is nice but like most artists you skipped past the fundies too fast and it shows. your coloring, while not amazing, is much further along than your basic fundies.

the real culprit is showing features that aren't appealing, like her gums, and that weird nose shading. whens the last time you saw gums on a girl in a stylized drawing lmao. it looks nice though, i added some shine to the hair to make it more engaging. i also upped the sat/hue to complement the spunky pose with the colors. nice job tho imo

You just need to practice figure drawing in general. Your proportions are all off. Get good at drawing figures that you see in front of you and that will have direct carryover to what you can invent from imagination and using references. Two questions:

- What sort of materials do I need to achieve this sort of texture and layered paint effect with the hard brush strokes? I'm guessing I should get some sort of thick oil paint and canvas? What about brushes?

- How hard would this sort of effect/style be to reproduce for a complete beginner?

You need to study proportions badly. If you measure by heads, 1 head is head, 2 head to nipples, 3 heads to navel, 4 heads to crotch. Your 3 head barely makes it pass the ribs and your navel is pass 4 heads. The entire body is stretched out length wise.

You need to use different pencils. Youre shading the light values with 2 dark a pencil. I have the same problem when I try to only draw with an HB. Try using 2H or 4H or something and then rememeber: darkest lights are still lighter than lightest darks. Also work on your shadow shapes and planes. Seems like you're just shading where you think it should be dark instead of shading based on planes.

So idk about your intent here but if you are doing a value study then re-examine the shape of shadows on the body, some areas are hastier and less detailed compared to others so try to mind that. The dark fur especially looks sloppy. There appears to be no knee on right foreleg.
The shape has some issues too, put your ref and work side by side and take your pen to compare the angles of the silhouettes and major shapes. Back of the neck in ref is at 45 degree angle while yours is almost straight up for example. Your head is larger compared to torso than in ref so pay attention to proportions.

I could probably continue to nitpick but honestly, who cares if the ears protrude too much or whatever? Nobody knows enough about camels to spot such things without reference. I like your work as a whole and it's solid practice. Also, it's nice to see something other than moeblobs posted here so points for that. I'd suggest you start using your pen to measure your reference to get more accurate angles and proportions. If you want to do the fur then I guess you could start by detailing all the smaller shadows you see on it. It's so thick that think of it less as strands of hair and more as an uneven surface with all kinds of bumps and dips and how they affect light. See how it looks smoother in shadow versus in the light?

I'm not proud of it, I'm ashamed, to expose one's shame and lack of honor is essential.
I've been posting snippets of my drawing routine, here's an unfinished hand, I failed at this, still not grasping the form.
Until I improve I won't leave this place.

Am I hopeless to you? Am I lacking in potential?
To fail once is to lose all dignity and honor, either success or death, those are the only two choices left to this unfortunate body I inhabit.

dude just shut the FUCK up and post art to get critiqued on. Don't start being an autistic kid asking someone a question, then respond to them asking why they think that, then start arguing against their opinion. What the fuck are you even trying to accomplish with that?

I'm someone that tried helping in an earlier thread but I'm tired of it at this point too. Yes you're hopeless, whatever, draw and ask for advice and try taking advice to heart and post again, or shut the fuck up nobody cares and we're not psychiatrists or your parents or your teacher or doctor that can help with mental issues.

Hi. I have worked in a psych ward. My input is very important.
STOP RESPONDING TO HIM
He will either give up or his BPD will "deactivate" and he'll stop. Responding only fuels him

I did it ppl, I really did it.
Started Riven's Phoenix "the structure of man".
2 lessons per day, watch and copy in the morning, repeat by memory in the evening.
It will take like 6 months to complete.
There is no turning back now

the thumbnail looked better than when i clicked on it

the proportions of the face look good, but some of the features look a bit weird (pointy chin, thicc nose), also maybe you could go with darker values for the nostrils, corners of the mouth, etc
