In this ITT Thread, we try and find artists whose work we remember but whose names we've forgotten.

There's this guy I'd seen post on /ic/ over the years who had a very angular style, it was kind of like Butch Hartman but with an actual understanding of volume which has eluded Butch his entire career.

His name was like "meatball man" or some shit like that, do you know what it was? He seemed like a bro and I regret not following him.

I used to post work and WIPs on /ic/ regularly, from ~2010-2019. I stopped because of almost everything you mentioned, but I still occasionally lurk.

Essentially. And by good, I mean just different. I stopped chasing muh fundies and digital paintings of girls/sci-fi/fantasy art. My work just didn't fit here anymore.

In a way, yes. This didn't used to be a problem and I never worried about it, but since 2016, 4chan got even more volatile than it was. 4chan is much, much more well known now, and the public association with it is all negative. It could be potentially damaging to have some anonymous asshole email my clients (publicly available info on my portfolio/social media sites) and tank my professional relationships. Why would anyone ever do this? Because I occasionally post lefty political drawings & stuff, which makes me a target. It's not worth the risk, especially since there is little to gain from /ic/.

/ic/ is a cesspool of bad advice, misinformation, and needless aggression. The draw thread is useful for quick critiques (though these are usually unhelpful and vague.) Anonymous critiques have far more negatives than positives. Too many people on this board think that the only way to make a living as an artist is from porn/weeb patreons, concept art, or via commission charts, and think that these things encapsulate the entire industry of art. People here give absolutely terrible advice, and since there's no accountability (since we're all anonymous), it's just a self-perpetuating crabfest.

I used to like helping people anonymously. I do think there are good, regular people on /ic/, but since we're all anonymous, it mostly just seems like a sea of assholes. Again, it got worse since 2016, undoubtedly. 2010-2015 /ic/ was a little better.

Artist either become a lot better and move on or give up. I've seen it happen a lot and I've talked to a lot of former /ic/ guys. After a certain point there's nothing of value here.

Also if you're good /ic/ brings too much heat, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. People will go out of their way to take you down a peg, regardless of if you're arrogant or not
