The original isn’t bad; I mean, the artist wanted to depict a fat ugly goth, and she managed to do the job. This is a fat ugly goth.
The issue is just how generic the story might be - fat lesbian with self-confidence issues who can’t stand being compared with her over the top mom - especially that everybody is fond of Starfire. It’s another case of a beloved character torn down because of some stupid “muh vagina” development. Although it’s not as bad since it’s about her fat daughter, not herself. Could be worse.

I don't wanna overstep my nerdisms on an art/critique board, but there are 3 Starfires (There are more, but these three are the definitive differences)
2003 Star (Cartoon), Post Crisis (1985) Star, and New 52 (2011) Star.
'03 Star and Post Crisis Star are noble women who are innocent, but '03 star is way more innocent and goofy than Post Crisis Star, who is more smart but still optimistic even though she grew up in sex slavery because her sister betrayed her. New 52 Star is a cynical woman who, because of slavery, copes badly with love and has more sex. Later writers of the new 52 era tried to make her like her 2003 show version , but it didn't work as the n52 version. though cynical and promiscuous. was smart enough to lead a ginormous spaceship into battle.
DC semi- rebooted again in 2017 and Starfire is a weird amalgamation of all three versions, kindhearted and noble, not cynical or lusted up, but also not a ditzy lady who speaks in broken English
