What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.

Who are some artists I can look at if I want to get references on the older anime style? I'm talking WB Kids-core, things like Sailor Moon and the first few seasons of Pokemon.

I've been looking at a lot of Kazuko Tadano's Sailor Moon illustrations, but I'm wondering if there are some other good ones to look into.

That face is literally not in the same plane of reality as the rest of the piece. There is potential in the idea of a cartoony face with a realistic body, but at first glance in the eyes of a random non artist, it looked like you drew everything are hard as you could, and then once you hit the face you gave up. I don't care for Zelda but this isn't bad. However I don't feel it has any of the same impact as the original painting, since Link barely looks hurt. Maybe if his eyes were closed or shadowed. This makes it feel more like a parody instead of a homage, but maybe that's what you wanted.
It is still very well done.

First time painting anything and this is very much a practice piece to try and figure out how csp, my tablet and painting in general works.

I'll be honest with you, the arms/hands of the top left one look extremely out of place. You need to be sketching out the torso and arms themselves to get the placement right and then erasing them afterwards if you want it to look ok. As you drew the hands/arms currently, it looks more like someone is reaching from behind and putting their arms in front of his face. Apart from that you should also really use some sort of reference for the posing of the hands. You could even take a picture of yourself holding something similar, doesn't have to be a perfect 1:1 reference. As it is it looks extremely weird and not natural.

For sketch i use color eno mechanical pencils. I don’t have to erase them before markering, and they leave a nice ghost image of the sketch. I like pink, orange, and light blue. The purple, dark blue are too dark, and the green / yellow are too light.

For inking i use the 01 micron for most of the drawing. 005 for the details and PN for the chunky parts.

Copics for coloring. I think this one was mostly B99, V99, V95, RV29, B37, V15, V12, B24.

I use 80lb hammermill premium color cover copy paper. Works well with markers and microns, and good enough for pencil sketches, and you can print your digital sketches on it, then ink + color the prints.

I hate that there was a span of like 8yrs when fluorescent bulbs replaced incandescent for energy savings because LED technology had not advanced far enough. So everyone bought a lifetime supply of fluorescent bulbs that never burn out, but they are so shitty. Their light is so weak, they take 10 minutes to warm up, they have high frequency flickering, they’re undimmable, and they fuck white balance so bad.

I’m stuck with a replacement desk lamp with this fuck ass spiral fluorescent bulb that’s prolapsing out of the lamp shade. Waiting for my halogen bulb replacement which packs 100w into a bulb smaller than a pen cap.

We were playing animal crossing and sometimes the animals lose items on the island in these little orange baggies. So we brought the little baggy to beau and i said it looks like we stole beau’s scrotum, then he tells us that he lost his sack has has been looking all over for it... now everytime we see little orange baggies we think they are little orange scrotums. It’s funny because the bag perfectly matches beau’s colors, and you tie off an animals balls before you neuter them.

Also beau and fauna are totally fucking on the island. They are always in each other’s houses.

Personally, I like the style of the left more. I don't see why you have to limit yourself to one though, just do whatever suits the piece. For example, character concepts and the like (like the image on the right) would probably work better in that style.

yes, I like how I made the life side too. I'm planning to stick with that style and hopefully be known in a particular art style, but I'm just a student and need a money to support myself. that's why I don't know which to polish in my works and i feel kinda stuck to where I am now.
