segu ishida most likely uses 3D in the pieces, the rest not so much but you'll need perspective for them

can i just be hnest? It look boring, the technique is another part but the concept is nthing special... no interesting composition, strange ligh, colours are not that special, and the figure is stiff and on some part flat... and don't forget how diconnected the character and the background look...

nah artists like this usually peak early and become disillusioned once they realize what they're doing is nothing special, and the stuff they made in their teens only looked nice because there's tutorials available now for them to learn anything , yet they've made nothing to define themselves and truly call their own
the people who push themselves and in turn the medium are freaks who get off on experimenting and pushing technical achievement, or don't care about visuals as much as they do telling stories, judging by the example in OP they are neither

You know I can see why isekai is such a big thing for the past 5 years because I'm getting real tired of looking at yukata and wind chimes.

Anyone else reach the point where shit like this gives them motivation? Before i used to get all bitchy when i saw someone better than me, but now it just makes me want to draw and get to their level.

did they use 3d in that image? pretty impressive though

No, I see it differently. I'm content that they're successful at winning the contest. It means the contests aren't rigged by rich guys and anyone can win with the right skill. Not so much that I want to 'get as good as this person whom I never seen their work until given the opportunity to be boosted in said contest'.

The artist has Blender listed in their skillset on their twitter and has retweeted a bunch of commonly loved Blender tools plus the background looks like a render.

>> No.5012290

>>5012285
looking at the other works i dont know if this deserves first place, it only looks good cause of the background render

That artist's 3D abilities is a lot stronger than their 2D (animu) abilities for sure, assuming that they modelled all of it. Their 3D modelling skills might be stronger than that of a lot of 2D concept artists and even some of the 3D artists. But their 2D abilities are kinda lacking.

It's an untextured wooden lattice and one model of whatever he's holding copy pasted a million times. It looks good but it's not exactly the pinnacle of 3D skills.

>It looks good but it's not exactly the pinnacle of 3D skills
Sculpting and organics is also important. So he might have trouble modelling, say, a tree. And some things I think are difficult to pull of for example trying to make a soccerball might be a pain. And I think that also 3Ders are also pretty fussy about the topology of 3D models and not just whether or not it works in a 2D piece.

Anime is not making it.

>what is concept art/anime hybrid
Dummy, this artist'd know realism as well and even if the artist didn't they've already halfway to making it in the 3D concept art sense, especially because all 3D programs have the same core principles.

i don't know about that the bg looks pretty simple, literally just planks and spheres which is pretty easy to make in blender
but it looks great

they've made some architecture on their twitter and rooms and things. In any case, we'll see if they keep working with it or if their interest has already peaked in art

I have no idea why the OP pic won first place. Even if the artist didn't use blender it's just really boring compared to the other submissions. Pic related deserved to win first place more. It actually has soul and I see real skill used when making it
