This is a thread to discuss all kinds of digital drawing hardware: non-display graphics tablets, pen display tablets, portable tablets and more.

>What should I buy?
State your:
>Budget
>Location
>Type (display? non-display? portable?)
>Size (in inches)
>Other information
>Previous equipment

If you have any additional questions, ask them.

>Recommended tablets:

Intuos Pro M - The best non-display tablet.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite - Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech.
Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9" - Best option for a display tablet.
Used Cintiq 22HD - The only worthwhile large display tablet
Galaxy Tab S7+ - Good premium alternative to an iPad Pro

>Avoid:

XP+Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand - Poor build quality, lackluster pens, bad tilt, struggles to register light pressure, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands are basically the same because they're all centralized. Also watch out, Chinese Companies are known to shill aggressively, even on 4chan.
Cintiq Pro - Terrible value. The drawing experience might be good, but you're paying way too much for an unreliable product. Dead pixels are frequent, as are black screens of death.
Microsoft Surface Pro - The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.
Lenovo - Bad drawing performance.

They're fine for new artists and entry. It'll work and last until they want something bigger.

Came into the other thread late. Trying to buy a screen drawing tablet for my family member and not break the bank. Looking to spend about ~200, but will go a little higher.

I was mainly asking if the xp pen are good,
had my eye on this one.
So is it only one guy crying about xp pens or is a big split wheter they are good or not?

I was looking at this one: https://www.amazon.com/XP-PEN-Artist12-Pro-Full-Laminated-Battery-Free/dp/B07VZF7ZC9/

Watched this mikemegamega's vid where he checks one out and he seems to like them, the quality of pic is certainly about all I would expect, not going for pro here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d952X6qEQU8

Hello, /dtg/, I have a question for anyone who had a screenless and upgraded to a screened tablet.
Upon upgrading to and using a screened tablet, did you notice certain tasks and activities become easier? I'm not expecting things like a skill boost, but rather, I assume it takes a shorter amount of time to accomplish the same things due to not needing to fight with the disconnect between drawing surface and visual feedback media (discreet screen), thinks like laying down line work, and being more accurate the first time. Stuff like that. And if that is the case, by how much of an impact did it make on the workflows affected by the switch to screened tablet?

If you're looking for a nice cheap pen display I'd recommend the Kamvas 13:
https://www.amazon.com/HUION-Kamvas-Battery-Free-Sensitivity-Stand-13-3inch/dp/B083W88L5H?ref_=ast_sto_dp
It's larger than the XP Pen, and it can connect to android devices. (In theory, I've never actually tried this out myself)
I've had mine for about six months now and I think it's pretty great.

>> No.5000859

>>5000829
The only improvement I found was I was marginally faster cleaning up line work.

For some reason I spend more time fucking around with the initial sketches/composition on a display than a tablet.

It's not like you constantly fight with the disconnect, once you get used to it, you can pretty much pick up any tablet and use it like it's second nature.

Unless you prefer a 20"+ screen, or prefer to work in SAI or Krita, the iPad Pro is the best drawing tablet experience.
Mind you, you also need a matte screen protector for some resistance. If you use glass, you have to start using smooth stroke features.

The schizo faggot who makes these threads doesn't actually draw. Don't buy into the tablet meme unless you do your research and have found a perfect screen mirroring app for PC - yes, that supports tilt, pressure everything or else you may get trapped into that ecosystem forever on one 2D app, because of that retarded schizo who has never produced a single drawing of any value, on an eternal subscription for the rest of your life. You can't assume you'll get cintiq functionality from an android or ipad.

Unless you are a 2D hobbyist who values portability over functionality, it could be a bad idea.

If you buy an apple or android tablet you will be paying subscription fees for CSP. This isn't 2010. Both apple and google won't let fake in app purchases go through. If there's no APK or bypass on mobilism then most of the time NO CRACK EXISTS.

And please note the computer cracked CSP EX also only goes up to 1.9.4 as well, though you can use the online for the assets store freely. CSP EX used to be cracked by the scene group XFORCE but they hate it when people hex edit their releases. Which everyone did for CSP. So they stopped cracking it. Then CSP added online verification which fucked up that crack, but a user had a friend who figured out how to emulate the license server and did all our licenses by hand. Then a retard came along and fucked it up for everyone. So there have been no cracks since 1.9.4 but some of us have 1.9.5-1.9.7.

You can get a permanent cheap CSP pro license for the computer because it goes on sale all the time, but EX is much more expensive and the most obvious difference is that you can have more than 24 frames for animation, the other differences barely make an impact. There's also been loader bypasses for pc made for cracks but so far the person working on it hasn't been able to make advanced pen tool settings and things like rulers work.

hello guys, chinese shill here. bought this recently and it turned out to be quite unusual... no it turned out as always, as a mechanical keyboard didn't make me a writer, a screen tablet didn't make me an artist.
considering the fact that I have been painting on the screenless for 3 years and i really succ in the trad, it was very difficult to get used to it
on the plus side:
-a little bigger size than my old 1060 plus
-comfortable stand, now i don't have to base tablet on my poor laptop.
-tilt and without battery
-second screen
-passed the test with a ruler (top right).
on the downside
-more acidic web colors, monitor on the laptop have more organic colors so the difference is noticeable
-paralax, but it's kind of like everyone's
-even more wires

overall, I am satisfied with the purchase, at least its better than my first wacom ctl471 bullshit (fuck this shit)

Honestly, it was ballsy. As an all in one at home, its a great idea. And frankly, as their first attempt at that, it was smarter to go big than try to fit everything into a space too small for the technology they have. But its not practical for artists who travel for work to have a 22 inch monster under your arm.

If it was a decent rig and they eventually made a smaller version, I think Huron would finally pull in front of Xp and make Wacom worry about that part of their market.

Very nice.
My budget 350 euros (414 USD), i'm fine with or without display as long as it's good and durable. I think size should be important, but huge tablets usually are more costly, so medium size is fine

I was thinking of an Intuos Pro M, it's exactly in my range. Only doubt is if a good display tablet exists in that range. I don't really care about the display that much, but it's nice to have options i suppose

The Innovator has the newest pen PA5 whereas the 15.6 pro normally comes with the older PA2. The difference between the 2 stylus is that the PA5 supposedly has a better activation force - wether it's even perceptible, reviewers don't seem to notice it. I have the Innovator 16 and I like it but if you can find the 15.6 pro for 300$, I agree that it's probably not worth spending an extra 100$ just for that. I can't really comment on the Innovator because it's my first display tablet. It's better than my (quite) old screenless wacom intuos just for the sake of being way bigger. Since you are used to a 4 X 6 surface, going to a 13.5 x 7.6 should feel very good, the display's slightly bigger than an A4 paper.

Non pro intuos arent very good. Tried one back in March this year. Pen is thin and feels cheap, surface is rough and bites hard on the nib if you want to do quick consecutive strokes on a single spot, and the surface area/pressure levels are smaller than tablets going for half the price. Wacom hates cheap customers, and they can afford to lose your custom if you get pissed. They mainly sell to studios with bulk orders.Selling "affordable" shit to "beginner artists" is only for good PR, they really will punish you for cheaping out. Even the non pro cintiqs fall short in specs while still being twice the price of competition.

http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?t=2469

I have a cintiq pro 24 coming in soon, so I wont be seeing these kind of problems. But its fucking expensive and wacom are as bad as if not worse than apple. Im having to pay 80 euros for an arm adapter, aka a bit of metal that cost them 5 euros to manufacture.

Next time spend at least a little bit of time doing some research.
The new intuos pro line are tremendously overpriced (as always) and have a printer ink design in the form of nib wear. They figured it was a stupid business decision to have a perfect tablet that lasted for 10 years because thats essentially losing a customer for a decade. There are, but the catch is that for a nib not to be burned down it has to be harder than the surface. And if the pin is harder than the surface, the surface will wear down instead of the nib so youll generate a big smooth patch where your pen activity is, surrounded by the normal papery surface. If that doesnt bug you then fair enough, go for the 3rd party nibs. Or you could buy a smooth texture sheet for the cheap price of 40 euros.

Dont get me wrong, the intuos pro will work just fine, its a great tablet. But so are the ones at a 7th of the price that dont have that meme paper texture that emulates the worst aspect about drawing (your pencil wearing down) and without the opportunity to fix this for free (sharpener)

No. You shouldnt be spending more than 120 euros on a non display tablet nowadays. Ive used an xp pen deco pro and it felt great, but It still had the paper like texture which I personally dont like. The rest worked fine and the nibs lasted far longer than the new wacom ones. I prefer the smooth surfaced tablets that huion releases. Look into the h1161, looks pretty decent.

What I dont get is, Wacom could easily justify the price of the intuos Pro by having the same etched glass surface they use on their cintiq pros. It feels nice to draw on but doesnt burn your nib. But, they wont, because then they lose your repeat custom.

Hmm I'm considering a Huion 640p now. Like I said I'm just starting out and it's mainly for doodling a bit for myself, dipping my toes in the water... the active area being small isn't really that much of an issue with the non-display tablets, right?

>> No.5014959

>>5014955
If you wanted to transition to screenless from traditional, itd be easiest for you to have a tablet whose working area is close in physical size to your display. So that a 1cm movement of your nib = 1cm line on your display. But a size match is hard to get, even with a large non display. That being said, you will get used to whatever you begin to use, especially if you have no prior experience. Your brain will just map out new muscle memory. Generally id advise to go for at least a medium, since on a small youd be stressing your wrist quite a bit.

Go for the Intuos on this one. The XP may seem tempting because of the screen, but as your first tablet, you should aim for something comfortable to get you used to the experience. The 12 is too small, so unless you opted for the 15.6 pro (also good) it would eventually affect your posture and comfort when working.

A screen less first will let you sit back and not hunch over the tablet to work,

Well it's obviously a minor risk since the last driver updates were like 5 years ago for Windows, so I would probably strongly suggest disabling Windows Update if you're using W10 cancer to avoid accidentally fucking up your drivers which happens quite frequently, but I'm not sure to what degree it's fixed by Wacom and not the developers for the programs. Since linoox drivers are made by people in the community, I'm assuming that updates will be fine as long as they're being actively developed. And I think Mac may be a problem. But I think that it will be a while before it causes any issues and usually it's down to the programs themselves to fix things because I've heard that other people are also still using the older Intuoses

That guy is a fucking machine, honestly. Imagine buying an uber awesome cintiq only for the whole screen to die and then having to send a cintiq through the freaking mail or something to get it repaired like what happened to kawacy, that's a big yikes. And an anon on /ic/ found a way to fix it via some technical jiggery pokery which I honestly do not think I am even capable. And then I saw someone say on discord that their screened Huion died.

So yeah, display tablets are something that I just don't trust. And if Feng can draw that well with a screenless, I can sure bet that it's enough for me.

Wish more people had your insight. Most new artists think that a screen is a must but they’ve really only been viable the last 8 years or so vs screenless which is going on 30. if it was perfected you’d have a huge conversion wave, that’s not the case. Working artists are sticking to what works, screenless are ergonomic, you dont have to worry about color accuracy or parallax issues, screenless are faster since communication is one direction, and (at least with the intuos3) the build quality is top notch.

Twitch livestream. A few things you need to know about twitch:
A) They only keep the VODs for a very short period of time. I never bother downloading the VODs and sometimes they get uploaded to youtube or bilibili or some shit but most of the time they don't which means if you missed it you're fucked (and it won't even end up on cgpeers or cgpersia so if you like an artist then make sure you rip it before it fucking disappears forever)
B) Actual livestream is likely in an RMTP type format and they inject ads into the broadcast so if you want to watch a stream make sure you use the developer version of uBlock or you'll be fucked when you watch a stream and miss half of it because of the ads every 5 minutes. I keep having to write my own adblock rules every time I visit that cancerous site so most of the time I don't even fucking bother
C) The last time I tried to find a VOD downloader it took me like 5 hours and I'm pretty sure I literally had to give that piece of malware my username and password in order to "download" the VOD
