Yet the oldest classical art institute with unbroken history is in Russia. Maybe it was capitalism and rich pieces of shit that wanted to have contests with who owned the stupidest piece of shit "art" is the real cause of lack of craftsmanship in western institutions. Why work hard to get skills, when the guy with shit art but good selling skills gets the millions?

To be honest most of these studies aren't that great though, I'm not sure why people in this thread are so suprised. I've studied at a Japanese art uni and a British art uni and I wouldn't say the quality of work was any different on average really.

It's just that art is taught with more structure and focuses on correctness to an autismal degree whereas anything highschool and under focuses more on creativity and experimentation. The problem with that is creativity and experimentation should come AFTER you have a solid foundation so you can break rules intentionally. American art colleges will be more strict on anatomy/perspective but I've seen people who have no business in art school getting by without getting much better. There's no harsh critique or incentive to improve because you'll still get a good grade if you're "trying".

Art is subversive.
Those in power don’t want to be subverted.
Defund art education.
Less people like art because teachers are there to baby sit and not teach because they don’t have the budget for good teachers.
Only those with “talent” move onto do art.
Capital creates system in which cheapest, fastest, easiest art is wanted.
Use art as focal point of propaganda machine.
Uneducated masses would rather look at symbol people on their favorite social media advertisement than anything actually subversive.
Uneducated masses don’t see doing art as an activity anymore, it is only something consumed.
Higher rate of consumption devalues art and creates higher demand.
Art becomes worse.
And worse.
And worse.
Art schools teach to the business model instead of actual theory or cultural progress.
Businesses invest in propaganda that portrays artists as gay libs.
