Why no one here draw environments? You all are missing out on taking your art to the next level

It takes time to make a decent environment just to be posted in this shithole, so nah, you get a sketch here and there but no polished work.

For me it feels like when you want to draw figures there's a lot of people to hold your hand, but with environments you're kinda on your own to find resources.

I don't feel the need to work on my backgrounds as much as I do for the rest.
Buildings are basically a few dozen of cubes and triangles glued to each other, and barely anyone notices when I just trace them from photos or fuck up perspective

>>4972585
basically this, there's a ton of figure drawing reference available
different poses, lighting, body types. there's also portrait ref, hand and feet ref. that are relativity easy to find
there's no shortage of perspective books/vids but finding good reference to start building your visual library is a huge pain so no one really does it.

I try focus on drawing environments but it's really hard to find good source material. I'm envious of all the people who draw portraits and figures.

Right on. I've been watching these sort of videos and drawing to get an idea of how to do street scenes. Ever since then I've been seriously asking questions that i've never asked myself like what actually is a utility pole. What is the average height of a floor in a building? What makes a building believable? In a multi-use building where the first floor is business and the upper floors are apartments -- how do you get up to the apartments?

A pole that caries power or communication lines. 14 feet. Human-sized proportions, unless it's supposed to be intimidating and inhuman. Inconspicuous side entrance away from the business areas.

Backgrounds suck. I'm planning on cheating by using 3d. pic related. It does take away from drawing characters but in the long run I think they will help with speed since it's free perspective and interactive composition.

>> No.4973568

>>4973554

You can use 3D for layout, but you've got to paint over it.

Otherwise it will look out of place and jarring.

>> No.4973629

>>4973568
Yea end end goal is paint over it with the help of photoshops median filter. Also got to make colors pop especially shifting the shadows to a more cooler hue. Lastly a light blur and some color correction should make it look passable. It looks lifeless and static raw.
