F YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

Hey guys, I'm total /beg/ but I really want to learn how to draw like my favourite artist (Nabetse Zitro). Can i skip Loomis's ,,Fun With Pencil" and jump straight into ,,Figure drawing for all is worth" (i can't stand fun with pencil childishness)? Or should I start with Robertson's ,,How to Draw"? I really want to learn fundies like perspective but I'm kinda stuck in the paradox of choice.

I decided I wanted to learn to draw afew days ago, so I watched some tutorials on sketching, and have been sketching up some dumb monkey character doing different thing, they all look like shit, but somehow get gradually better.

Should I just keep drawing my dumb monkey in different settings and situations or should I do those "Draw a circle, then 3 lines, look its a horse" tutorials for kids?

Any tips is appreciated

The cartoon are a teaching tool, not a funny silly thing he threw in. Drawing cartoons teaches you form, as well as how to draw simple shapes and turn that into characters. The book also has some realism style stuff in it too. You should at least give it a glance over. Repost:
I'm trying to understand inclines in perspective. What do they look like in 3 point perspective? I tried to rotate this box about the lower left line to creat an incline, but when I trace the parallels to their vanishing point, the right vanishing point is above the first horizon line I drew, and the vertical vanishing point shifts to the right. I assume means that the horizon has tilted but this is not what I want.

From one humble /beg/ to another, I'd recommend that you try and more clearly define what is what at first, and then start laying in the rest. That blurry look makes it so that you have to work a lot to understand what's going on.

Retarded question.
Please help me I'm so confused, why do female have three lines for these two areas? I keep seeing these three.
One's a 'y', one is just a curve and the last one is a straight.. I'm assuming that the y is just extra fat, What's the ideal one when drawing?

What the difference? What do I draw, what drawing females from scratch.

Take the Vilppu Drawing Manual and work through it like a course. Spend a week on each chapter and copy all the drawings in that chapter as your "lecture" (along with reading the text). Then spend a week practicing that chapter on your own as best as you can. Cycle through the entire book multiple times, you'll learn more and more each time.

Then, you should know how to study from there. Start making your own art and study the subjects you want to study with reference from life or online.

Through all of this, draw several hours a day, every day.

Anon it's great that you have a lot of ideas but if you want to get better you're going to have to buckle down and work on primative shapes in perspective and figure drawing/anatomy. You have to draw a lot and split it up between fun projects and studies. Your drawing looks extremely flat and like lines are so sketchy. It sounds like a cliché but you really have to build your fundies. Think of drawing like athletes going to the gym. You can't just play the game for fun. You have to build up your drawing muscles too so that you learn a new skill that you can apply to your next drawing, otherwise you won't improve. You'll make a new picture that has all the same mistakes as the last one.

How do I get characters in perspective? both feet on the same plane and basic forshortening?

I like a lot of these. I'm not very good myself but I think from here you should try to finish your sketches now. Develop them further. Maybe approach them with an objective like rendering in higher detail. Do the hard work now that way it's smooth sailing later.
Are these from imagination or via reference?
>How do I get characters in perspective? both feet on the same plane and basic foreshortening?
You could do it using a grid or box. Ideally, you want to think on grid-scale.

I really dont understand how I went wrong. I did the whole 3d construction thing with boxes and used a reference but it still came out really odd.

I also find it funny how it looks way better (but still bad) when I just take off the black lining I did. Is there a way to draw like this normally?

>wonder why drawing came out weird
it's flat, the proportions are inadequate, your line weight is inconsistent, there is no gradual fade with what shadowing you do have present. it's just a hard darker tone. also your bikini thing is flat because the straps don't stick to the fucking contour of the body jesus christ. also her hips/thighs are disgusting, from that angle her ass would not be showing like that either. she looks like she's supposed to be bending forward, but you have done nothing to actually convey that except for making her thighs so wide. no shadowing/rendering = no illusion. all you've done is given his dark outlines on the edges of her skin and in the hair, but you're not even consistent with that. you don't have a defined light source. where's the fucking light, anon? nose = flat, no detail to give it life. a weird choice to give it as little line weight as possible, considering everything else. hair = flat, no liveliness to it. no lines. just a blob. eyes? the least concerning thing here, honestly. oh well, glad you gave her clavicles. god, imagine how weird she would have looked without those? haha... ha.

This looks like it should be in a 1989 catalogue for incense. It's literally shocking and overwhelming to the senses before one can actually see the composition itself. This contrast makes it even harder to see what's going on, let alone having to decipher what it is she's doing once i understand it visually. I'm not saying any of these things are bad, I'm just saying that if notoriety is your goal you should go in a different rendering direction.

Personally I try to do it in one go because I don't really have the patience to work on something in an iterative way (at least not back to back, I tend to come back to it a few weeks later if I was unsatisfied)

Not really. What you drew isn't something I could redline or tell you to improve on. I don't know the reference. It looks like you should connect lines more and be more confident? But why would I tell that to you when it's advice I can't even follow myself. So I ask you if you are having fun with it. Are you enjoying it. Do the strokes of your pen bring you more joy than the strokes of your dick? Because It kinda looks like you aren't having fun and your response isn't very encouraging to the level of fun you are having with your pencil.

I stopped drawing for a while but someone gave me advice like a year ago that was so sweet and well thought out (probably said it over and over to people in these threads) that I saved it in a notepad. Here it is in full. Now I'm actually listening to it. Whoever that anon was, thank you.

What I love about this, is that you clearly love drawing and are having fun. DO NOT stop having fun and drawing fun shit.
Critique:
- The enthusiasm is awesome! You are still a beginner though and it shows through.
- Your lines lack confidence and purpose. I say this a lot "blah blah blah line confidence." You also have a purpose problem. Purpose means you put that line in that spot at that length at that angle on purpose. You have lines aimlessly running to connect faces.
- You also chicken scratch several times for basic lines
- Some of your gestures are quite good. The ones that use the least amount of lines and the curvy ones show you see motion.
- Your faces need a lot of practice.
How to study:
- Check out dynamic sketching by Peter Han on YouTube and do those exercises whenever you can.
- Keep grinding gestures. Do the equivalent of 8 pages of gesture.
- Read Loomis head and hands (see beginner books). Do 3 pages of heads
-Practice line economy. Line economy is using the least amount of lines to show the most amount of something. Pick a few gestures and AFTER you've gotten better at line confidence try and draw them in a set amount of lines.

So I'm trying to learn how to draw backgrounds but I'm just wondering how tf do I even do this without taking literally forever?

Literally start marathoning bob ross. His process of layering over and then blending isn't the most accurate, but it's quick enough for a 30 minute TV show.

This picture honestly shows that you dont have
a soild foundation in perspective. you got the head big that ass big, the leg big and feet big, at the same time dispite the camera not being close enough for most of the featurs to be the focal point. You're on the right path and do good work but again reference a 3d model for complex posed and learn perspective because you just drawing features bigger without under why or how perspectiveb actually effects it.

So how do I do perspective?
I learnt that I pick a horizontal line and make lines that go towards it or make things that are closer get bigger. Am I doing it wrong?
How am I meant to do it?

Knowing that can only get you so far , Framed perspective vol 1 and 2 is a good start for beginners. Also practice draw basic shapes in perspective is good aswell. Don't fall into the weeb trap of not studying perspective (and form for that matter) because you don't see how it applies because is does and your plateau hard with them.
