F YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

So I have recently wanted to start drawing but i am conflicted on one front

Since i am new to art should I start with pencil and paper or since I have access to a drawing tablet just go on there from the beginning instead of doing the initial drawing stuff irl the on the computer. My tablet is a little old (Wacom intuos 5) and I won't be getting income for another month.

TL:DR
Should I start my drawing journey on a tablet or pencil?

Thanks, I gotta keep working at perspective lines.
Is there a possibility of having some kind of defect that can fuck with your perception? Ive always had problem telling where stuff is you were to ask me to point "right above something "in the like. Ive been told that when i play tabletop games if someone asks me to hold a tape measure or something right above a model (6 or 10 inches above it) I can never get it exactly above the model and im always off by 2-3inches

That sounds like a depth perception problem, and there's a lot of things that could cause that. Like having a lazy eye, I don't have any sight issues so I don't know more then that. It shouldn't fuck with your perspective drawings unless you're going from life.

For perspective lines you just have to keep them parallel. If you look at most beginners that have started doing construction, there's almost always an eye that's higher then it should be. It's just practice to get it correct without using guidelines. Remember to flip the canvas when placing features to check if somethings off.

I know the anatomy is fucked I drew it drunk without a reference. The interesting thing is the parts I started on acid were surprisingly accurate, although I could not continue this level of focus for today.

I dunno at what skill level you're at but I've got it all covered. You're not gonna like this mate, but it's a bit of "just draw". Though it has more to it.
I was the resident paintfag of some /a/ threads during 2017 to 2018 and I made A LOT of "joke comics" on paint.. but I took them seriously enough that I was trying to think of new poses and looking at the characters as reference.
And how to manipulate said characters to turn them around or give them adult designs for example. A lot of brain-work was done with these silly paint comics.

Officially trying to draw seriously in August, it was pages upon pages of my notebook filled with ""gestures"" (I just copied the silhouette of people from pictures), then... I did read and got help from redlines and different anons here.
Actually a lot of anons did the studying for me. Even in this year some of my drawings were way uglier before some anon corrected them for me. Then there's Proko videos, digital coloring videos, understanding light, google references and trying to get inspired by someone's style (it's ok to be drawing while looking at someone's art and trying to "get right" the way they draw some things, just don't copy the whole piece).
Some attempts at hatching for example, yeah, if you start trying to hatch/shade you'll start thinking in 3D even if it's really ugly at first...
My first "Good" drawing was pausing Monster Hunter and drawing my Armored Knight in paper, carefully hatching it, little by little all of the reflections... I got it mostly right I think. Put yourself some challenge like that and draw something semi-realistic, for example a Berserk manga page or something similar.

Also for a while I drew EVERY day so I'm obliged to say it's mostly that. Not every drawing I did was post-worthy in fact I didn't even take pictures of some because they were just bad, and if I were to pick up a pencil right now and a piece of paper I'd probably draw something shitty. You need an idea first.

i know just draw has truth in it. i draw everyday, but if you draw the wrong thing everyday, it can still mean you won't improve
but thank you for this post, helps me know i'm going in the right direction. a lot of what i've been doing for the last two weeks was just gestures. right now i'm trying to focus on nailing box forms decently

i don't think i could get anons to do MOST of the studying for me. its honestly hard enough to get my art friends to crit me (perhaps i'm hopeless in their eyes)

>> No.4970264

I did start with boxes alongside the gestures so that's nice, I had forgotten.
But I transitioned quickly into trying to draw humans from pictures or characters, it was really bad though but people can usually offer better critique about it, for example it's easy to pinpoint that the elbow is supposed to be around the end of the ribcage or that an arm down reaches up until the mid-thigh. Stuff like that can be identified and told so the knowledge sticks with you, one mistake at a time.

But get comfortable with the mere act of drawing first, yeah, boxes are fine.

>But I transitioned quickly into trying to draw humans from pictures or characters
i try doing a mix of that, by box forms i meant the human figure turned into boxes. i'm passed drawing boxes in empty pace so i can get an understanding of the figure better

i really just want to get the most of the education. i'm on no deadline, but sooner than later is whats ideal
