Probably because of how the shows look, they grow up watching. I wouldn't be surprised if in a decade all of the newer artists we see that come from the west draw circle tool eyes and calarts bean mouths, because of this.

Likewise the same principle is applied to the east, except since they grow up watching anime that means by default the children there are going to draw in a more anime like artstyle, since that's the only media they consume.

This is why it's hard for some western anime artists to draw "authentic" looking anime, there
are some that can pull it off like, Tony Valente, Toni Infante, and Timbougami. But for some of us it's very difficult since we grow up watching cartoons, instead of anime.

This, in a sense it's a form of symbol drawing that they never let go of no matter how good they get. I've seen lots of western weebs who aren't artists attempt to draw anime characters and every single time, they draw the noses western cartoon style even though I'm sure they recognize that most anime noses are nothing like that. It's the type of stylization they're most used to and need to consciously change it if they want to draw "authentic anime style".

It's a shame, cause it's overall appealing, but the blindness to a few uncanny aspects make the whole thing ruined.

Disney face is not he only part, the skin being dead and not interacting with the background, the independent color palette for each "material"... maybe he's trying to avoid committing tumblrnose by taking it easy on the red highlights, but that just results in a rubber body.

Sometimes it's difficult to critique /beg/s because they lack a foundation. You look at the drawing and go "Where do I start? Even if I point out several areas to improve, they won't be able to fix it." It's easier to critique /int/s because there's a few glaring errors that the artist can learn from fixing. (Critiquing advanced artists is the easiest because it becomes more about artistic direction than technical execution)

Helped a friend correct theirs since they were getting to that red nose phase. Apparently Art schools are teaching that it's one of the places you'll see blush first besides the cheeks and ears. So tumblr babies have been running with that to lazily color the nose red to give it definition.


It's tricky since it's a style choice and there aren't many ways to direct someones style away from it until they understand why it doesn't look good.
