What you do is prepare to not make a living on art then. If you actually want to make a living at art, you have to start thinking like a businessman. You need to appeal to the lowest common denominator and spend your time producing only what you know will sell like hotcakes. If you aren't world class tier and you still want to be a professional artist, as in, one who makes a living at it, uses it to pay the bills and put food on the table, be ready and willing to sell your soul.
