IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

First time poster. I have always been a margin doodler, but I really don't have it in me to be a disciplined artist. I was just wanting some feedback at how to improve at high simplistic/SD drawings that aren't meant to be true to life. I know the "correct" way is the general art advice of starting with a sketchbook of real life and simply from that but realistically I won't commit to it since its just something I like to do for fun. Plus I sort of like the wabi-sabi crudeness of it. Lately I've been having trouble branching off to attached bodies that match in exaggerated style and proportion.

Any guides or tips on just making fun little doodle people? It seems like everyone in Japan is able to do this this much without being good at other drawing styles.

Realistically, the best way is to develop your knowledge of real life anatomy, then skew and distort it. Any cartoonist with a unrealistic style would have learnt to draw realistically first, then changed and morphed the proportions to create a distinct style. Basically, in order to draw a big boobie anime girl, you have to be able to draw a normally proportioned human. People who "learn" drawing from anime or cartoon styles will only ever be able to emulate that which they copy. Stopping symbol drawing is hugely important too. If you wan't to draw a cartoony eye, you must study a realistic eye to learn how it works, then simplify the design to fit the artstyle.

tl;dr, You gotta start from the bottom, no shortcuts. Try it though, anon, it takes hard work and dedication.

Ever see those artists who draw samey, incomplete low quality things? It’s because they don’t knowledge the foundations to cartoon properly so they’re limited at what they’re able to do so it looks alright. You could be one of those guys or you could take things from real life and learn how to cartoon them

Hey I remember seeing this in another thread lol. Something I feel helps if you're decent at copying is looking at reference and copying all the forms you see. Completely ignore actual muscles groups or bones or whatever and just draw the forms. Before/after, draw it again and try to break it down into very simple shapes as well, ie grouping all the small toes into one form or something. It'll give you a better understanding of how to break it down since you came up with the shapes yourself instead of plugging in what a tutorial taught you without entirely understanding why it should be that way. If I had to sum it up, I'd say you are using proportion to spoof femininity in your hands and feet. It seems like you just make girl limbs smaller/stubbier rather than delicate and feminine. Your girl has kankles because you didn't give a feminine transition to her foot. And she seems to be missing her wrist joints entirely. I also think whereas with a male you would draw the anklebone normally, with women you would hint at it with just a touch of shading. Her fingers should be have a line reaching trough the length of her pointer finger (the longest point) and her toes should do the same at the big toe. Her arch should be more dramatic and her heel more petite. The top of her foot should have a steep slope towards her toes.

Your male feet seem fine in that study sketch. But you can't just make them smaller outside of drawing actual little kids.

Go study gestures (a lot), then practice figures with simple forms, arrange them at many angles you can. you were already there so it will be much easier. Your anatomy is sufficient for your style.

Not that anon but eyes are more than the pupils, you need to make a conscious effort of how open you want her eyes, the way her eyelids angle, position of the pupils due to the direction she’s looking etc, and make use of eyebrows too p, also eye highlights! Kill la kill is an anime with a lot of expression, so you could get some really good references from there and observe how her eyes change
That said I’m actually horrible at faces myself, I neglected focusing on improving them, but I tried a small edit anyway to try and give you an idea on how slight changes can really change it up. Faces are my biggest flaw so take this with a grain of salt if ya want

Your body construction is actually not too bad. Its passable. Your drapery on the crop top sweat shirt is is also passable. The head is the major weakness of this drawing.

The head is too large for the body. The face is very flat with no depth or perspective. The facial proportions are completely wrong and there is tons of symbol drawing. Definitely give loomis a try when constructing the head. Also make am effort to study the individual facial features at multiple angles.

>> No.4961184

SHes super stiff. There’s no movement in it. It’s like you drew a posing doll without taking into account the curves of how the body moves. Is she skipping? Is she about to jump back into the battle? These things would have more depth and ugly curves to give a more realistic pose. She’s not doing the robot, she’s fighting. If she’s fighting, she should be using the whole body to push force into something, the same applies to her face. Why is she a doll? Why does she have no real expression? What is going on in the picture? Right now it’s like an unrigged asset waiting to be animated. It’s just there.

No it makes them worse. If you want to mess around with digital feel free to, do what you want. I highly recommend practicing your fundamentals no matter what medium you use. Very close. Legs look great. Belly should curve a little where the small of the back arches. Boobs droop a lot when a woman is in that position so if they are supposed to be a A cup they look great. If they are supposed to be anything bigger, they'd droop a lot more. I think the booty is too flat but that might just be personal prefrence. You could benefit from taking a picture of your own hands at those angles. If you're male keep in mind sexy feminine fingers end in slightly pointed tips. Shoulders are hunched in side view but held back more in a more confident sexy look in front facing view. The right hand would be angled up a bit more so you see less of the palm and the thumb is thinner than it should be. On the left hand the fingers don't match the angle on the side view. But that is pretty complex. Think of the finger joints as the separate parts and tendons make hands feel comfortable in a curved position so fingers naturally curl slightly when relaxed. The thumb sticking out like that would feel forced and painful. I did a redline. I hope that isn't taboo in beg/ for non begs to redline. Really just trying to help, not be a dick by doing that.

the face is pretty good, everything else is kinda meh like the hand are flat and have a weird shape. the cloth is just a outline and the neck makes no sense the way you drew it looks like it has a pyramid shape and cover the whole top of the rib cage and shoulders

so I guess work on the rest of the body.

not sure about what to think about the hair tho.
