I had a cintiq 16 but didn’t like 16:9. Also have a 12.9 ipad and prefer its aspect ratio over the cintiq. This made me think if I should get a square display tablet like the one anon has.

If you can find one in a barely used condition then go for it. Otherwise you run the risk of it dying on you since those models are older. The closest to a square format in recent years is the 32, I think, but it costs as much as a car.

The blinds for the window were just cropped out in the pic. I shine all the swing arm lights at the ceiling to try to diffuse the lighting, and the weird square ones are these cool but gimmicky Lifx Tiles, they have an app where you can set all sorts of colours and movement. I tried to make everything peak comfy to make me hopefully more motivated.

I own a very unnecessary amount of art supplies, and what's out by my desk is probably less than half my hoard. I used to not care much and just stuck to the basics, but then I worked at an art supply store and had to learn a ton of detailed product info. Now I get fixated on all the specs. It was too tempting being surrounded by all those different tools and mediums not to buy stuff.

It's also nice to switch mediums from time to time, it can be a refreshing challenge.

It's a plastic suspension file. Specifically, a Keji foolscap suspension file. I cut one end so it's open, then wrap the interior around my tablet and carefully tape it up. The interior is rather nice to draw on and it will never scratch. I can also throw it in the bin whenever it gets gross or I accidentally get food or some juice on it.

When I used to have my old bamboo I drew like a gorilla and created deep ridges in the plastic of the tablet surface itself. I also use all my tablets as a mouse constantly, so it would especially get bullied along the scrollbar areas. I saw an anon suggestion at the time to use plastic folders. It helped to stop my carpal tunnel syndrome and maybe ruined my art accuracy, but ever since then I haven't been able to draw without a plastic folder.

super nice setup, I got the same mouse lol. Do you like the precision mouse? I find that despite the name its not too accurate when doing really small adjustments and I miss-click a lot when I'm in my animation timeline. So I've got a question maybe someone in this thread can help me out with. I'm putting together a pc and picked up an 8-core 3800x on sale, but the new ryzen 6-core 5600x cpu comes out on nov 5. Some leaked benchmarks seem to suggest some pretty promising results. I'm using this pc mostly as a workstation and some gaming in my down-time. Anyone know how important 8core vs 6cores would be for doing art related tasks such as photoshop/blender/zbrush?

GPU - Needs a dedicated one preferably. Intel or AMD dedicated GPU is usually a hard NO unless you're running super lightweight stuff like SAI only. Both AMD and Nvidia will work. GTX preferably for any 3D work (but an MX will still keep your options open generally), RTX is a super premium with no super tangible benefits except if you're a heavy 3D renderer or gamer.
RAM - 4GB absolute minimum. 8 GB or more is highly recommend highly for any remotely heavy work
CPU - i5 or i7 preferably.

Anything is usually a bonus.
Touch screens are generally a freaking meme. I've had some that glitch out and just cause the cursor to jump everywhere even when it's not being touched unless I disabled the touch.

Tablet + laptop or tablet + desktop is usually the most solid option available. If you are on a shoestring budget for a tablet, a medium Huion or something.

I mean, if you buy an iPad chances are -

1) you'll be paying for stuff like CSP subscriptions for the rest of your life as opposed to purchasing a perpetual license or being able to pirate everything that you have your eyes set upon.
2) you'll unable to do anything 3d related or anything animation related with a decent workflow
3) using the ipad to control the computer will be a terrible experience, especially if, as I suspect, this shid is still VNC based
4) the ipad update experience -- with every update, iOS becomes more bloated, using up more RAM etc. but if you don't update you'll be unable to update your apps. At first, things like dropbox will stop working. Then your internet browser
5) Battery replacements are expensive

iPads are pretty much exclusively for hobbyists who do 2D art, who like to draw/sketchbook on the go (the more traditional experience), who are going to be buying what they are using and who aren't likely to be experimenting with a lot of different programs/wanting to be taking their art in different directions/wanting to be learning industry relevant software/workflows etc.

The aspect of co-working that helps me is change of environment, keeping to a schedule of defined work hours and having an easier time staying away from stimuli because of the nature of the environment, and sense of accountability because of others' presence.
