Guys, I try not to come here very often, /ic/ has given me much, and /ic/ has taken much away, but I would like to share this cool chunk of info that crossed my path this fine morning.

Was reading a Japanese drawing blog in search of secret drawing sauce, and while there are some great globules of unique knowledge on display for me to sip from, one passage stood out to me.

On the page where this generous artist was discussing basic practice techniques, he (or she) described drawing lines, drawing circles, drawing basic forms etc. Do one page of this, do one page of that. As you get better, do less, but keep your drawing hand sharp.

Then they said "After a while, feel free to substitute this with a warm up exercise of your choosing. I like to copy a few drawings from Andrew Loomis's Figure Drawing For All It's Worth."

This person draws weeb shit all day long, but they learnt on Loomis, and they keep copying Loomis to keep their fundamentals strong.

There are no secrets. There is only smart, hard work. I feel good about that.

Fun fact: the Japanese title of FDFAIW roughly translates to "A Tale of Graceful People"

It's pretty cool to be able to peek behind the moon rune veil, it was almost worth the time investment. I'm off to copy the masters. Love you /ic/, stay crabby.

やさいい人物画 means "easy figure (person) drawing". Where the hell did you get tale or graceful??

This isn’t surprising. All of the books in the sticky are used by Japanese illustrators regularly too; Murata recommended Hampton to his viewers during a stream as an example. The fundamentals and reliable resources don’t miraculously change depending on what country you’re in.

lmao yeah I noticed that this morning and came back to receive my scolding. I read 画 as 語, what a brain fart. やさしい can mean graceful if you use 優 instead of 易, brain fart number 2. Good thing I'm not a professional translator.

Just find any Japanese language manga drawing blog you like on the Internet, they'll all have the same advice. Their visual content all ends up in the /ic/ tutorial threads anyway.
