Is Design a real discipline? Or is it all subjective? I'm beginning to think that all designers are just regurgitators who have good taste. If I want to improve my design skills, should I just build a large visual library of things I love?

Design is a little of both! Everyone has their own style, but designers train themselves to match popular styles, which is why its important to BUILD THAT VISUAL LIBRARY!!! What makes something unique is combining two ideas into something new. Building your visual library is to help you draw from imagination and find that new idea. If you want to work on your style, study tempo and combining different professionals styles. Its all part of our ever expanding visual library!
