I've hated this shit since I was in high school. Every fucking character design artist has this disgustingly generic faux-anime tumblr style and it actively pisses me off just looking at it. Does anybody else share my hatred or am I just retarded?

The opposite is true. Disney is the original style all "tumblr art" is descended from.
Basically artists adopted the style for non-disney related fanart for Star Trek/Harry Potter/Dr.Who/Sherlock. Throw in some further minimal stlylization for easier replication/consistency (ala anime) and there you have it.

I have no feelings towards it. A lot of artists on tumblr and twitter start off drawing this way and usually break out of it as they find their own style. I used to draw that way as well when I was 15 because EVERYONE else on tumblr did it, and I didn't have my own unique style developed. It's easy to do too since there's so much symbol drawing.
