Dang, that's hard. I slept in my car during one winter and it was rather hard, but I could still shower at the local gym, that kind of stuff. I can only imagine what could go through his mind while sleeping outside, "CRABS could be here, I've never been in this neighborhood before. There could be CRABS anywhere." while We're Gonna Make It reverberated my entire car, making it pulsate even as the $9 wine circulated through my powerful thick ligamemes and washed away my (merited) fear of /beg/s after dark. "With a car, you can draw anywhere you want" I said to myself, out loud.

Asian here, we can stay up to 24 y.o until we get a job of our own and move out. I don't know how americans deal with the elderly but mostly we pay back by taking care of our parents when they're too old to take care for themselves, although we are not obliged and done solely upon our own free will. Give and take. Do American parents leave their kids on their own once 18? I guess that teaches you to be independent early so its great.

here in germany, if you kick (even a neeting) child out before the age of 25, you have to pay all their costs until they're 25 basically. So if you kick somebody out against their will(this requires you to sue them if they really don't want to go, you can't just lock them out or shit) you're basically fucking yourself in the ass with costs. Parents are also legally obliged to help pay costs if you are in apprenticeship or studying, assuming you put reasonable effort into these things and complete them in reasonable timespans.

I live in America probably considered upper middle class and my parents house their kids for however long. There can be a balance of pushing your kids to take responsibility but being there for them as a safety net. I went to American public school. It wasn't unheard of people getting kicked out at 18. It happen to one of my closest friends. Another one their mom just straight up abandon them when they turned 18. I even knew a few kids that didn't get kicked out but the parents started to demand rent as soon as possible. There is definitely pressure of a society to move out as soon as possible.
I always thought it was a common mentality in lower income families. Can't afford children then people shouldn't have them.

Live in the US but my parents are immigrants from Central America. Multigenerational households are common in large parts of the world, and a lot of immigrants maintain the same customs even when they move to the US. Of my own volition I moved out at 17 to go to Uni out of state, then enlisted in the military soon after. Towards the end of my contract my parents asked me to move back in with them, both because they missed me, as I am the youngest, and because they wanted me to have a better chance of success later in life. They know that the economy is shit and that not paying rent would allow me to save a significant amount of money, and that not having to work long hours simply to subsist would allow me to focus on my education more.
It's been a year since moving back in, and I can safely say it's been one of the best decisions I've made. My finances are in great shape, I'm nearly stress free, my relationship with them is stronger than ever, and I'm grateful that I get to spend these years with them. They won't be around forever, and I know that I'll cherish the memories I'm making with them when they've long since returned to the earth.

American Boomers that kick their kids out at 18 are heartless dipshits blind to the economic conditions of our time, and dont love their kids nearly as much as they think they do. They'll rot away in some miserable nursing home and spend their end days wondering why their kids and grandkids don't ever come to visit.
