are you in this only for the money?

be honest

>> No.4891610

Fuck no, I already make decent money from a day job. Art might be one of the worst choices for profit since you need to spend a shitload of effort and years to get to a decent level, literally anything else is easier and offers a bigger return sooner.

No, money certainly helps, but my ‘goals’ aren’t purely financial per se. At the purest level, in some way I do enjoy the act of drawing, and I’ve recently started to dabble more in creating original stuff, even if it’s not that great (though I’ve no doubt I’ll soon surpass everyone here). I have 3 goals from art, one of them being having extra spending cash, and possibly a full career if I’m really good. The other two are so that I can create the things I want, when I want, how I want them. Lastly, I want to create something big, or rather multiple somethings. Maybe a comic, of epic proportions, with legendary storytelling, I was inspired by Isayama and Araki. I also want to create an epic work of art starring me as the subject, likely a self portrait, but either very large or very well done, since I want people to remember me and how great I am. For that reason, as well as for personal satisfaction, I improve upon my impressive base continually, and I refuse to even entertain the notion that I might be NGMI, because I’ll throw away anything, backstab anyone, endure all manner of pain to reach my goals. I’ve matured a bit further since I last spoke to (You) fools, even though I’m already very mature for my age as is, but I hope some of (You) also make it, since I already am certain I will.

if your personal endgame is just getting money, you better get in computer science or similar

I have a STEM job that pays more than I could reliably make with art. I draw because I like it and have things I want to express.

Of course, artists make bank with very little monetary investment. Unlike other occupations, you don't need a certificate or degree to find work, which means not having to take on debt. Though the pay is not especially high, the costs are also very low, which means any and all of the money you make is money you can keep in your pocket. Additionally, you are able to continuously generate products with an indefinite shelf life that can be presented in a number of ways to make money. Eg. If your portfolio is rejected, you can still sell prints or the portfolio off as misc. assets if you designed props, environments, etc. You are also free to make your own working hours if you are a freelancer, and work directly from home. You would have to be an idiot NOT to do art for the money honestly, because once you get the ball rolling you become incredibly rich incredibly fast.

I want to draw to help anxiety. But currently I'm way to /beg/ and drawing feels like a chore sometimes.
I hope once I get over the first few hills that'll change, for now I'm stuck drawing circles and boxes.

Don't do so anon, draw what you like or you are going to get frustated. Search nice photos, artists, etc and use them to help your work get better. I am no way near as good as i would like to be, but i enjoy drawing and i can sit and do it for hours, even if i don't like the end result. What always helps me is to look at artists i like.

It really depends on what you mean by art:money.

For example I paint homes and lay tile. I work in construction, and also have a side job simply making rice for a Thai restaurant. I consider that art, and I get paid for it. I would say, and recommend to never limit yourself to one thing and one thing only. If you want to profit from your talent then diversifying is key, in my opinion. Just do you.

No. In fact people ask me if I do commissions and to date I haven't set it up and partly because it seems like a bit of a chore, and I just do art on the side, I'm a PhD student in something unrelated to art, they pay me so I make money by going to school.
