Has any American or Western artist ever died from overwork? Or is it a strictly Japanese thing?

100%, but it's not an actual 'thing' in the west like it is in japan. so they're probably just considered to have died from a stroke or whatever while working. in the west we don't look for the trend because it's not quite as bad as in japan, same with hikkikomori (but it's getting more prevalent nowdays)

Do they work to death or do they spend all day inside getting zero vitamin d, exercise and eat only conbini food? Maybe theres are some crazy workers who draw with no breaks 24/7 until they die but I feel like some guys who "worked to death" maybe just died from a really unhealthy lifestyle and to give their families a nice story and keep their dignity they say they worked to death because thats honorable in japanese culture

But why do they have an unhealthy lifestyle? Because there putting in 16 hour days with no time to do anything else. They barely have enough time to eat and sleep with those weekly deadlines. Very little sleep + extreme work hours + poor diet + minimum exercise + high stress = early death.
