So what exactly is your point, that sexuality shouldn't be expressed in art? How is expressing your sexuality not a valid form of artistic expression? It's part of the human experience. How is that not prudish?

what happened is that the industry got oversaturated and the boom in interest you’re referring to is due to every retard who “loved videogames” getting into it because they saw it as the easiest part of the industry. I remember a feng video years back talking about how he has to turn people down from entering his school because most people trying to enter had no idea what the fuck concept art was, had no idea about drawing and just wanted to “work in video games”.
Then you add the culture of muh loomis, muh gesture, muh construction, muh imagination that /ic/ developed, and you can guess how people immersed into such mindset started looking at concept art and saying “wait, what the fuck is this?”
There’s practically no such thing as “concept art”, the job is concept DESIGN, but people just ate up the PROMOTIONAL IMAGES marketed as “concept art” and thought “wow, I’m going to be a concept artist and paint these amazing environments and scenes” when in reality you spend 95% of the time bashing photos and drawing 50 iterations of random props like cutlery and boxes.
The “concept art” that the board was infatuated with never fucking existed.

Here's the thing: A lot of the early concept artists were trained in a traditional or illustrative approach so they brought over that knowledge base. The role wasn't strictly defined with clear boundaries of what was to be done, so they would do the job of a concept designer + artist as one streamlined process.

The thing I don't get is who the fuck thought this was the "easiest" path? It takes a shitton of time to train basic drawing skills, nevermind design skills. And this was before photobashing became a thing.

I think It's way easier to paint stuff like OP with gouache in a toned notebook if you know how to mix colors and control wetness. That takes a lot of time and practice. They're still rather small sketches, you're not fitting in much detail there. They're both difficult in their own ways and I like doing both, each makes me a better artist in both disciplines.

There are finely made small sketches and almost full pieces ideas with great anatomy and understanding of expressions and poses, some ink in there and some watercolour thrown in as well to quickly and clearly convey an idea.

imo this is steve hustons work, and people are too quick to judge that something 'isn't a finished piece', just because it is more primal and sketchy in its execution, even though the first sketches sometimes convey the idea better than a full fledged 'finished' piece.

people trash vilppu in the same way, even though there are different aspects and goals for people who draw, paint etc, different goals and values in art
