I'm not personally a huge fan of screentones in digital art but that's a pretty nice piece. If you wanna kickstart some commissions quickly, find some popufurs and do a few gift pieces to get shout-outs. Make sure you post often to FA/Twitter as well and you'll get people approaching you pretty quickly.

this is a tough subject. how much do you humanize it? how do you humanize it without making it look like a different animal? e.g. putting nostrils on the muzzle would be more terrestrial-mammal than aquatic, but it looks weird

Obviously depends from style to style, but at most, you should be changing the eye sockets/eyebrow ridges. For instance, most animals have eyes located closer to the sides of the head whereas humans are simply facing foward on the same plane. Everything else is practically personal preference (such as changing muzzle shape, adding teeth, etc).

Your example is fine for the most part. You don't need to stay true to the original animal you're basing it off of. Appeal will always triumph over accuracy.

thanks, i agree with what you're saying. i tried to do the eyes sort of mid-way from their position on a dolphin to their position on a human. dolphins are relatively easy since they have a groove in the front of their orbital socket that lets them look forward for depth since they're predatory. the nose is the big thing though, it's extremely different. i bet someone here could stylize it in a way that makes it more visually appealing.

Different artists do different techniques. Having a good sense of gesture and form will allow much more flexibility and saves a lot of time in the long run. It's typically easy to tell the difference between someone who has strong fundamentals vs. someone who's winging it, not to mention sketches shouldn't necessarily be a guessing game until it looks right via blind drawing and erasing. Obviously this depends on what your goals are as an artist. Are you fine with doing a select few poses/angles? To what extent do you want to study forms?

When you draw an anthro/ or werewolf like character, how much hair do I put on the overall bodies, and how do I make it fur flow with the fabric creases and folds? functional wise Im not sure which type of clothes are doable for furry body.

Depends on the style, but you generally just want to treat it like skin, leaving you with practically every option for clothes. From there, you can add tufts of fur in places like the neck and exposed arms to indicate hair. Realistically speaking, clothes would pat down fluff anyways.

It's a damn good sketch anon. It's sort of hard to tell at this early stage, but I don't think the shoulders quite line up like they should. I think the right one is sitting just a bit too low for the perspective you're shooting for. Take that with a grain of salt, mind you.

Bruh. I only looked up a couple of those artists and they all push a cartoony style. The Asian furry art normally look like standard manga faces with the addition of a snout but stay relatively close to human features. Western furry art usually gets more exaggerated and deformed faces with bigger eyes. Get good at cartoony style heads with emotive and expressive features, then subtly deform them with animal features. Look at how Disney does animal toons and develop something similar that works per your tastes. You don’t need to study animal skulls that much.

I really think it's in our best interests if we keep furry art in one general, since this kind of acts as a containment general, and as a result will piss less people off. If we make a "/kag/" then eventually we'll have scaly, feral, ect. Art generals, which will just make anons hate us even more. If you have a problem with furry and instead want to draw kemono, then that's fine. But please keep it in this general instead of making your own.

Another reason to add, is that everyone seems to have a different definition on what counts as "kemono" on this board, judging from the past threads we've had on this topic, since kemono is basically just furry but in a more eastern style, it makes sense to me to just keep it in this thread.

either way the snout and ears are what makes it look really weird.
Assuming its supposed to be a dog, animals dont have their ears on the side of their heads like humans so start with that.
I would make the snout bigger as well but I guess thats personal preference it doesnt look that bad but it is weird looking. You can go to e621 and look up some tags and add order:score to see the top rated drawings (and -animated to get rid of the animated shit)
