i feel like my art is so soulless.
to be honest ive kind of been out of ideas lately.
i feel like im being so technical.
the last picture i drew, i just made because im sick of ilya clones who draw the same face cute anime girl again and again who has ZERO facial expression. yea its cute but without emotions, its just coomer trash. so i decided to draw a girl laughing. it came out okay. im not really good with color, but the drawing itself is fine i think. but thats the problem. who wants to describe their own art as "fine i think." ever since i found /ic/ everything i do is an attempt to learn or experiment. i probably have gotten technically better. ive tried new things. i got more comfortable with trad medium. ive learned a bunch for sure. but i dont have ideas anymore. i dont really have concepts that i want to express. i actually enjoy when my friends make a specific request because drawing every single day for over a year im finding everything boring. and not boring as in not challenging. i still suck at most things, but boring as in, i am caring less about it. i dont want my passion to die :( when you watch kim jung gi or someone like that... he just... cranks out these cool ideas. a tiger with a man's body sumo wrestling a fucking astronaut with tentacles on a unicycle. and i can come up with random ideas like that too but i just dont care. i dont want to draw that. i dont think its funny or cool. i need to find something i care about to draw in order to care about the art i am putting out if i expect other people to care about it.

I'm trying out instagram and i gotta say i'm really just not a fan . it's been doing so many little things that stack on top of each other and really piss me off.
The most annoying aspect is how when uploading multiple images, it zooms in on every image after the first one and i can't zoom out.

there are apps out there to add white on the sides or top of your images to make them a square so that everything you upload is the same aspect ratio. i agree its pretty stupid, thats the best ive come up with. its also going to shrink your images. so if you have a big picture with a lot of nice detail. you cant zoom in without losing resolution. i use IG too but its not really a good platform for art. its better for thottery and food pictures.

I don't use social media to get commissions anymore, it was never a viable source of revenue for me and I don't even use it to reach new clients. As a matter of fact, I'm hardly even a freelancer now, I just work remotely for two advertising agencies. At work I have to keep up with the current trends in design and it does have an impact on my personal illustrations.

And yeah, I'm also a bit tired of seeing "Humans of Flat" everywhere, but I think that not all examples are terrible. Some actually remind me of Matisse cutouts or Picasso's paintings. I like Xoana Herrera's work (pic rel), I believe she's the lead designer behind Facebook brand illustration.

I'd only recommend doing it if your art is good enough that the artist is likely to retweet you (if they don't, your comment gets lost in a big thread that most people won't fully read), you have time to hunt down several of these threads (find some that are specifically related to your subject matter/style/genre, too) and you don't mind coming off as a little desperate.

Don't expect too much from them, though. Most replies I see to these threads get barely any attention unless they're the first few replies, even when the art is skillful. People looking at the threads will mostly be other artists also hoping to get followers, so they might engage with you a little to make themselves look good, but that rarely translates into a lot of followers who genuinely like your art.

Try not to post in multiple subreddits at once. If a post flops in one subreddit, go ahead and try another, but simultaneous posting will kind of cannibalize upvotes. Redditors love deep diving in your post and comment history and will call you out for shit. It’s recommended to have a kind of presence in a subreddit other than shilling art. Make sure you read subreddit rules, mods love using their power for even the smallest infractions. Best subreddits to post to are ones relevant to your content. r/art is one of the easiest to post to to get front page of reddit overall and the skill level is fairly low but fanart and stuff is better suited for subreddits related to specific fandoms. Fandoms are who will ask you for commissions as well. If you’re a girl, take a picture with your art.
