>i want to make a graphic novel
>i have ideas i want to execute, almost at the level of a book like Snow Crash
>my drawing skills are pretty awful, can draw some stupid stickfigures, and I try to draw weebshit/comicshit only for it to look ugly
>sucks even more that I own a Cintiq

How do I improve on my art so I can look good instead of looking like some DeviantArt fanboy kid?

Isn't there a limit on how long you can draw each day? If you ruin your wrist or something you'll be fucked for life.

Why not become a director and make movies based on your ideas instead. Or learn 3D, idk

Read sticky, learn fundies. You will also have to learn fundies of writing. Like I'm sure that by 'at the level' of Snow Crash you mean 'similar to'. If you're as good of a writer as Stephenson you should just make money writing, then hire an artist to make a graphic novel for you.

I've made money selling graphic novels. I started drawing when I was 15, went to art school for four years, and sold comics for 3 years after art school. Skills I learned that were relevant: drawing fundamentals including perspective, anatomy, abstraction, drawing from life, construction, light and shadow. Design fundamentals including colour theory, geometric abstraction, gestalt, typography, page layout using grids. Use of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. How to print stuff, idea generation and iteration, how to give and take critique, how to sell an idea, how to bring a concept from birth to completion, how to do research to support said concept. All of this learned from making scores of actual finished illustrations and even a handful of terrible comics, along with constant grinding. Maybe 6000 hours in all.

I'd say the profits from my most successful comic translated to about $10/hr. Others were much less. It's really fucking hard is the point. Give it a go, and maybe you'll have something in about 6 years.

I'll also point out that my comics were image heavy, me being not super confident in my writing ability. So yeah, you may need to learn to write, too.

Snow Crash is great though, maybe you at least have decent taste.

Although I am working on a comic right now that will pay about $250 a page and net me about $50 an hour, so actually I guess you can make decent money, but I've been practicing for like 15 years now, 9 seriously.

Try to master the art of paneling, page structure, dialogue, etc, (everything that has to do with comics except the drawing). If everything else is on point maybe people will think the ugly art is a stylistic choice
