Whatever robot in the center is in a mess of visual clutter. Didn’t even register it was there. Are the background objects pillars? What the hell is on the right side? His pants are completely black no lighting but based on the lighting in the image it should reflect some light. It just looks like a hole since the background is all black. Same thing for his hair. Your gray tones are really similar muddying the image more.
Is he touching water?

the only thing i thought i didn't have trouble with was composition but that's been disproven also. i have trouble doing anything right really. maybe i should go back to basics, value studies

should the greys be darker? adjust the lighting so that the cast shadow extends to over to the corner of the picture where the supposed other visual landmarks are supposed to be?

>but i'm assuming it looks too plastic for anyone to tell.
No it’s because the rest of the picture is so much visual clutter nobody can make anything out.
The guy doesn’t even look like he’s touching the leaves. He’s floating. So is the robot.
I’d give up and work on a new version. There’s no saving this in my eyes. And use a reference. Too many hard blacks and bright whites are diverting attention.
Are you trying to get a noir style? If so look at other noir styles and turn them black and white to see what was done. Also use a grey background not a white one. Use white to highlight areas. In this image too much shit is white blinding you. Pic related is minor changes to shift focus.

>> No.4782002

>>4781957
thank you. that image alone looks so much better and human-readable.
>Are you trying to get a noir style?
i'm not really going for a noir style. i just don't know enough about color to attempt anything else really.
i wasn't intending to go any further with this. it was a bit of a learning experience and i was dissatisfied with the composition and lighting before the technical mistakes were pointed out.
i have a bad habit of focusing on detail where it is not necessary / distracts the viewer i think.

look into learning edge variation. make some of the outer edges softer. right now you got only hard outer edges. varying your edges gives more interest to your painting and you can also guide your viewer to where you want them to look. here I quickly blended a little the light side keeping the shadow side edge hard

your value map is all over the place. you got whitest white and darkest dark all over the image. the viewer doesn't know where to look. here I toned down the background leaving the whitest part in the figure. the viewer will be inclined to first look at the figure, which im assuming you'd want to be the focal point. not sure what the light things on top are supposed to be, assuming they are pillars, i added shading

Colors/tones looking too samey. The lighting helped distinguish the guy from his horse. Lack of rendering. The guys leg was darker and stood out more from the horse. His foot blends now.

There's nothing to understand. Your stuff is /beg/. It lacks in a lot of aspects. The drawthread won't help you get better if you have a lack of understanding in the basics. /Alt/ is better for cartoony styles anyway. You have bad shape design, and no life in your drawings. No line of motion. It's lifeless. Everything is round in your sketches there's no variation. Your sketches need work that this thread can't help you with.

Except there is legitimate criticism in the replies to his work. Next telling someone to go to a thread that's better suited to help them isn't the worst thing to say. They're posting the same bad/dull art over and over again and getting the same critique. There really is no point helping them if they brush off everything. Akriel already exists.
>if someone has shitty art it's probably the braindead moron that has nothing else to do than keep telling the same person that his art is shit and to go away.

Now let's talk about why his stuff is low quality not low effort, and why it doesn't belong on this thread if he actually wants to improve.
It's not even his style. It's the fundamentals of cartooning and linework he's missing. Spamming his low quality work here is not going to help him draw better.
>don't see you or the other anon criticizing the other "low effort" art that I can see in this thread.
Weak deflection. I have criticized many pieces on this thread. Even a few lower quality ones. Pieces with quality too low or if they just seem like fap bait I just don't comment on. Simply put he shouldn't be on this thread if he wants to see real gains.

>You and the other anons are saying he should go to beg and that it's shit, sure he has a lot to improve, but if he likes how the drawings look and he wants to show them in here
And people are allowed to critique his work and tell him better places to go to improve. The point of the draw thread are for people out of fundies to show their work for critiques on them. By sitting here and spamming more of the same low quality images over and over again it just shows he won't listen to any advice and it makes it pointless to help him. Multiple people have said go to the other threads for help. This is the least mean thing said on this board. What's the point of the "Artwork/Critique" board if you can't give out and take criticism? If you gave me legitimate advice about my piece I'd actually look at it and actually want to get better instead of acting like a fucking baby then say anybody shitting on me is a "hater". It's why people like Akriel exist.
>he should be able to without a bunch of idiots attacking him.
Wah how dare someone actually give helpful advice to someone just starting out wah! If this is what you call attacks I'd like to see you handle real belittling. I could of just said "Your work is fucking shit NGMI kys" and left it at that. Instead I actually pointed out specific issues with his work and what he could look at to improve, and where is a better place to post his obviously burgeoning stylized art.
He couldn't take that criticism and you decided actual advice is now being a "hater".

You've got the basic observational skills down. Now as a stepping stone, I suggest you crank up the brush size and start working on laying down blocks of value. base colors, simplified values etc.
Rendering is a skill completely different from drawing so, you gotta work to it. Experiment a little, try out different workflows to see what clicks and improve :D

That's too subjective, what I may consider beg can be something completely different to what you consider beg, I personally enjoyed the cartoons of that anon more than the art of the guy shitting on him, so do they both go to beg including the guy that was telling him to go there? I've also seen people in previous threads telling someone who I consider a much better artist than me to go back to beg just because he has a very "different" style to what's considered "normal".

Kek, just because my work doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean I need to go to /beg/. The difference between his and my work is fundamentals. I follow the basic fundamentals of my style. He doesn't follow fundamentals of a cartoon style.

I find much more appealing the flow his cartoon sketches than how stiff, terrible angled, unappealing proportioned and overall unappealing line work you decided to show off , I seriously think he did a better job at the style he was trying to make than what you did with yours, yet I still wouldn't think you should only post in beg and neither should he, criticize his art all you want but he should still be able to post in here if he's proud of his work, because if we are going by your standards you should go before he does.

This entirely. I didn't tell him his style was shit but that he needed improvement in his cartoon style. Meaning line of motion, appealing shape, and character design. If you had actual criticism besides "it doesn't appeal to me" then it's something different. There are works that don't appeal to me but I can look at the technical skill and appreciate what they've done.
>he’d find better resources for perspective in /beg/
Multiple anons have said this. /alt/ as well. Probably the best place for his cartoon style.
>he would rather shitpost than improve
Also this.
>I don’t give a shit either way if he wants to stay bad lol
And finally this. There's only so much help you can give before you give up. He wants to stay at his level then he can. But don't pretend people are "hating" on him for drawing cartoons. It's a pisspoor way to ignore criticism.

Which angle? This is vague criticism unlike the ones given to him.
>unappealing proportioned
That's just the style of the characters I'm redrawing, and even then that's a nitpick on proportions you just dont like. Do you even understand what fair criticism is?
>overall unappealing line work you decided to show off
Again more nitpicks. You could mention any of the linework on Beerus's torso and that would be a fair critique since he's still a sketched out design. But you're just mentioning personal preference.
>I seriously think he did a better job at the style he was trying to make than what you did with yours
And multiple anons here believe he didn't. I love cartoons. And I would study them and the cartoonists concept art and character sheet. He lacks in a lot of those lessons needed. So once more /alt/ is more his style. Where they could actually help him.
I've posted my shit in /draw/ and got pushed out for being below the line. I wasn't mad I just started studying more until my shit was acceptable. Do I still have a way to go? Yes. But I'm not as far back as he is in my own style on the basics.

I could keep going on and on about all the things that are wrong, I'll give him at least credit for the clothes folds, which are in my opinion the best part of his drawing but even those look stiff and not like actual cloth.

No, you think "more lines = good" in my other reply I already said all of it's problems. I never said the cartoonist wasn't a beg, but in my opinion the difference isn't enough so that he can be acting like the bastion of what should be posted in here, if he feels proud enough of his sketches that he wants to show them in here, he should be able to, this idiot is acting like an elitist for no reason whatsoever.
I already said that the cartoonist should post in beg and alt to improve but he should be able to also post in here if he wants.
>levels are anywhere near each other.
They are very different art styles , but I CAN imagine pic related cartoonist' character (and many of the other characters he drew) drawn with some cleaner lines and beautiful colors (like the example I showed him) but I can't imagine the cunt's art colored without being a horrible mess, at best it would look like 1 of those devianart 2000 anime fan arts.
So you see , I think one has more potential and the other doesn't and the cartoonist mistakes would be much easier and faster to correct than all of the mistakes made by the other moron who doesn't even acknowledge them. ( to be clear many of the mistakes the moron makes, are the ones I make in my own art, and I'm in no way or form better than any of them)

Oh wow actual fucking criticism instead of “I don’t like your style.”
Besides several of your criticisms being just plain wrong or just conjecture.
Cartoons are astounding easier than drawing a more realistic fully detailed work. Here’s one I shit out.

>more lines = good
No, more complexity and the handling of the subject matter does. You can mention my perspective issues, but forget his cartoon deals with none of that. Even proportions aren’t held to a modest standard. If I were to draw his work and he were to draw mine I could achieve his cartoon style much easier than he could my style.

I imagine the other anon colors with fucking crayons. Even with my perspective issues my art can look well rendered to the point where most people won’t notice them. The final image matters the most.
>cartoonist mistakes would be much easier and faster to correct than all of the mistakes made by the other
Because it’s a fucking cartoon you tard. “Oh wow this cartoon is much easier to correct than this much more realistic drawing.” In this situation less lines easier to correct.

Mistakes =/= /beg/

I can't believe you're so tilted about someone calling out a person for posting in the wrong thread--especially when said person has been doing so for days now and annoying the shit out of other anons.

Doesn't matter how many mistakes he made, anon's drawing of Beerus and the other chick is still leagues ahead of the cartoon guy. It takes a lot more skill to draw what he's drawing than it does to make the kind of quality cartoons other anon makes. I would place him at maybe low-int.

I just got a fair amount of criticism for a digital painting I posted earlier, and I myself am farther ahead developmentally than both of them. Each art tier has it's own set of mistakes; just that with each tier, they become less and less severe until it's hardly noticeable. Artists never stop improving, for fuck's sake even the art teachers I look up to who spend their lives teaching art are always learning new things.

Having said that, I also am unimpressed with cartoon guy's work because the majority of it looks like it was copied off of cartoon stills, or a Frankenstein of other art styles. Not to mention I can see his erased line-work. Anyone can become a copy machine, but it takes the fundamentals to draw well from imagination.

So cartoon guy needs to get in /beg/ or /alt/ like everyone's been telling him for the last few days instead of shit posting and causing people to start petty drama and White knighting people on fucking 4chan.

I’ll agree with you on her. Most of her perspective issues are problems. She went through many pose changes outfit changes and is ultimately unfinished just like Beerus. It doesn’t discredit my argument at all. Especially since you couldn’t tackle them.
>I'm still able to see all of your mistakes.
Oh my goodness anon! It’s almost like I posted it here to see my mistakes at a faster rate with fresh eyes by a group of artists.
Even my shitty perspective issues can be overcome with good rendering pic related. I’m not amazing. I’m not better than half the people in this thread. But I’m still not /beg/ unlike your friend. Kys.

I appreciate the compliment. I agree wholeheartedly. I’m not great definitely not better than most people in this thread. Tried to paint the rest of her body and have her sitting down. I'm not great with drapery and I'm not sure if the pose makes any sense. If you guys think this looks like shit I'll just go back to the portrait version and finish it instead...

I also did a quick rim light test to see how that'd look. Won't render the hair before I have the pose and other shit locked down. This is turning out to be much more difficult than I originally intended. Feed mah back.

The rendering on her clothes looks great. The rim light color is strange since nothing in the background resembles any blue light source. It does make it stand out though. Not sure about that color rim light though. Everything else is so warm then that blue is just jarring to me.

Thank you so much for your thoughts! Yeah, I originally used the blue just because it made it easier for me to see it on the character but it definitely is out of place. i dont know anything about color or value.i drew this but it looks so strange. the reason is because i gave every color it's own layer so its easy to change if i dont like it and then i did all the shadows and highlights in 1 layer each. i didnt want shadows and highlights to be black and white so i made the shadows a dark blue and highlights a yellow. assume the light source is straight above or maybe slight to the left.

Learn fundamentals, trace drawings from masters and pros so you can see how they draw, make studies of more art, draw from reference, draw from life, use this to learn what colors look good together : color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel , study from the video course thread and draw with the video and do the assignments, repeat all that x5 and then you can finally try to make your picture again.

I’m guessing it’s too ambitious for your current level. If you want it to look like a finished polished piece, recommend focusing on one thing and simplifying.
eg
>focus on linework and have it clean (anatomy is off btw) and leave colors flat
>I don’t recommend you try rendering yet
>focus on lighting and just have hard cast shadows in black and white or simple cel shaded

You have a lot you need to work in on, break down any single aspect like perspective, anatomy, lighting, material, and work on that and I would consider that a success.

The thumb looks pretty nice. Stop wasting your time on all the individual feathers if you're going to paint the thing anyway. It's not going to be better if you draw a bunch of U-shapes on the bird. 'Drawing' feathers is a whole other thing but I don't think you should be focusing on that right now.

My friend did a pretty cool study of a bird a while back. Maybe you should check it out! It's a pretty good example of going from simple, bunched up values into more detail.

I like the idea in your piece and some of the muscles look pretty cool (apart from the split bicep on Wolvie) but the posing on makes him seem a little floaty so get some more reference for this stuff.
