Loomis is helpful for drawing from imagination, but it will help you way more to draw from references and memorize what a skull/face is supposed to look like before you try drawing them from imagination. I think that the emphasis this place puts on loomis has held me back, and Ive made much bigger strides by learning to copy.

Loomis doesn't know how to draw skulls, seriously. Go to sketchfab and search for a skull.

Any tips for quickly measuring proportions? Been trying out urban sketching these days and I kinda struggle to get the proportions right, mostly guessing the general distance between parts and using plumb and level lines. Don't want to look like a fool who measures stuff with his pencil either. Also, how the fuck do you draw trees

Proportions definitely improved, I would say concentrate on line first if you want to train capturing likenesses, getting heads right are hard enough without also juggling value.

Stop going for quantity and settle for quality. Its much better to do 2 good studies where you actually learn how to draw than do meme "100 x challenge" and have 100 half baked doodles.

On this particular one, look at the reference closely and measure your shit. Don't just assume you know how things look. Observe closely. Before you do rendering, you have to do a good linedrawing, so work on that.

Any tips welcome

>> No.4767850

There's a game on steam called World of guns, it has super detailed 3d models of tons of guns, you can move the model, take them apart to see how they work, and pause an animation of them firing, so its perfect for gun references

>> No.4768028

Sometimes for absolute begs quantity leads to quality, though. Mileage can't be overlooked. Though in this case it's def better he move on to another reference/basic fundamentals. It's pretty good progress still imo.
