IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done. Anything is okay.

previous thread >>4759826

READ THE STICKY for some guidance:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES - preferably ~1000px, <1.1mb

BE ACTIVE AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS - all it takes is a little feedback to give someone a lot of motivation. Leave no submission un-replied!

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>if you are /beg/
Don't ever give advice.
You can relate and share your hardships with other /beg/s, but never give them advice.
If you MUST give advice, start the reply off with "I'm beg, but what worked for me is..."

>Before you post your work
1. Every person giving advice here expects for you to have at least read some of the sticky, and that you already know what you should be doing to improve.
In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are perfectly viable advice.
We expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
Sometimes literally the only good advice to give is to practice more and improve your technique.

2. DO NOT post your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. If you do post them then make sure to ask for SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", expect to get meme replies such as "Loomis".

Follow these simple rules and the generals will become much more productive for both the /beg/s and the people giving advice

i noticed something the other day, a woman's elbow fits into her waist. If you are confused about the proportions, the length of the upper arm, or the torso.

Interestingly, if you look at a fucking tranny, this doesn't apply. There are difference between male and female bodies. So if you mess this up, your drawing will look like a man.

Technicals are off, but I love it. Lots of emotion in the character's eyes and body language. I love the attention to detail. Please keep at it because I see a lot of potential.

The bad: fingers are wonky on the left hand. Right arm bends where it should be straight. Top of head is cut off so they need more crown stretched higher to cover where it should end. I wish you had put detail past the waist too. The best way to improve is finish a drawing completely, and especially a entire scene that fills the page. You will exercise anatomy, spacial awareness, how to drawing organic and inorganic, all in one go that way.

If you like medieval style art, try art request threads over at tg/ for practice. I prefer fantasy so I go there for artists block and a chance to practice while making someone happy.

Good for you anon. The old masters were taught that same way for hundreds of years. It used to be you had to copy the works of great artists and could never do your own unique work until your master deemed you were no longer a student. The art teacher would beat you if you even attempted to try a unique painting. Some times when I look at low effort modern art made by art college students who smell their own farts, I wish art students still got beaten today.

The first book I learned construction from was a book by Dan Jurgens (Illustrator for Marvel and DC including Death of Superman) and he did almost exactly the blue method from my pic. Later on I read Fun with A Pencil and saw more or less the same thing. This was further echoed in methods from Josiah Brooks (Jazza on YouTube), and Brookes Eggleston (Character Design Forge on YouTube). Obviously, there has to be something about my construction that needs improvement if so many other people can do basically the same thing but better.

>> No.4763255

>>4763218
im not too sure how to answer this. what i pointed out was that the drawing was inaccurate and observing negative spaces will help. its not really about silhouettes mattering or not its more observing certain properties of an image will let you understand it better.

the drawing had errors in anatomy and perspective and was off balance. if things lined up better and was more accurate, it would be a better drawing and this can be achieved with better observation of the reference or more construction or experience. doesnt have to be only one way.

but if your focus for drawing is anatomy and perspective, value etc. instead of observation skills and accuracy on a reference. then you will get better results just doing anatomy and perspective drawings instead of using references.

cute birbs
I think you should keep working on your figure drawing right now. Keep drawing the pose as in your reference but be sure to identify how the head, ribcage and pelvis are oriented in space thinking of them as boxes, and think of the limbs as cylinders, even simple wrapping lines like Huston does in his drawings are helpful. You'll need to practice drawing boxes as well, he ones on your drawing look kinda sloppy. Once you can draw boxes in random orientations you start practicing rotating a box little by little in different directions, and then you should find it easier to do this kind of stuff.
In my drawing I mostly did things by feel for some quick practice, but there's a better way of doing it like this anon pointed out >>4763205

>> No.4763290

>>4763234
this is difficult to give advice on since you are saying the pose is also different. it puts anyone looking at this in an awkward place since now theres the drawing, the reference pose and the mystery pose you have in your mind all creating different factors on how you would go about salvaging this.

Can you draw from observation? If not, Keys to drawing + Iten's accuracy guide. If you can, then do Huston's figure drawing and read the first chapter of Hampton's book, and try to do pic related with all of your references, try to practice with photo references most of the time because depending on the artist, drawings might not be good references for study.

ok so i wanted to do a step by step thing but forgot to take the photos midway so theres just 2 steps really.

step 1 is to try to get the joints in the right places and the overall gesture angles and also a few reference points.
and then step 2 is to block out the rest and correct any initial errors from step 1.

yes i eyeball everything unless im drafting something where accuracy matters alot.

i generally know where to put the marks because well the 1st point can never be wrong and then every point afterwards is relative to another point.

most people drawing this way like to use heads for example they draw a head and then they know that the arms and torso will be about 2.5 of the head they just drew and depending on the pose also account for stuff like foreshortening.

Focus on the the shape of kneepads and elbowpads, not the knees and elbows themselves. As for feet, look at combat boot references and see their overall shape and details.

As for nitpicks, the head is too big for his body, it makes him look like a 15 year old. Torso is too short and legs are too long as compared to the reference, though that can be passed off as stylization. Also maybe mechanize and lengthen the gun some more, especially the barrel and suppressor. And give snake some actual trigger discipline too.

hey anon, this looks like a hard ref to work from. it looks like she is standing on a mound of dirt. find it helps to think about an even plane the figure is standing on, so you can ensure the more solid relations first, and then draw the body balancing above it. its ok to do torso and then legs after to balance it but i find it more troublesome. keep it up, the only way to improve is to do and think.

that's not how the bottom eye lid works m8. looks like fetal alcohol syndrome. Almost like you drew a side view eye on the front of her face? Also the swiggliness of the mouth makes her look like a burn victim.Don't do that. crisp smooth lines, anon.
