Well this was a long time ago so I don't know if it's happened again since.

But it is one one of the rare occasions where someone is speaking from a place of authority, they're asked to back up their words, and they do so. I want to say this person is an actual working concept artist.

nah, it's uncommon, but people post their work in arguments
usually it's terrible because poster has severe case of dunning-kruger and everyone gets a hearty laugh; but sometimes it's good and guy who asked to pyw goes into meltdown and accuses poster in theft, tracing and every deadly sin until thread reaches autosage

Or they just point out some small mistake and harp on that, or even worse, just mock it based on some subjective aspect of personal preference. For instance with merc wip they could just say

or
>hands and forearms are both two different sizes
or
>that stiff, straight ahead standing pose
or
>generic space marine with rimlighting and no background

Crabs can always find something to crab about, even if the image is overall pretty good for an amateur.
When you come across a PYW shitposter it's best to either disregard them, or just post a gag image like merc wip.

One of the funnier things about this meme is that the poster claiming merc_wip was his work took it off the artist’s portfolio site and named it wip to imply he was still working on it. The original artist said it wasn’t a wip
