Butch Hartman is proof that you don’t need to draw well to make it in the industry, you just need to have interesting ideas. All the Loomis heads in the world mean nothing if you can’t be creative. Not to say fundamentals aren’t important, but ask yourself: when’s the last time you actually expressed yourself artistically? Are you just drawing boxes, or are you actually making something?

Did anyone else think that the recent #my200vsbutch200 trending hashtag was kinda petty? People couldn't imagine why their generic furry and "tumblr style" art couldn't get as much money compared to a famous artist with name recognition. People probably commission him not because of his skills but because his toons were apart of their childhoods and gives them nostalgia.

One of the most important things I noticed when it comes to art commissions is that your art is only worth what people are willing to pay. That's why a lot of shitty fetish artists can make a lot of money too.

He would probably do better using sketchbook pro or CSP since it preinstalled comes with more traditional looking brushes. He's a good example of a traditional artist's cringe transition to digital. Reminds me of early 2000s digital art

>Considering he was an industry artist for over 20 years. I doubt nostalgia will excuse that dog shit.

It doesn't but people are willing to pay to have Butch draw their favorite characters in the style of their childhood cartoons that gives them nostalgia for when life was simpler and the world was less insane ;_; Pic related which was done by another artist looks a lot better though

Wrong. You can't make it if you ARE creative.
Normies despise anything they can't label.
They hate it that they have to think about what they're looking at. That's why the most successful e-artists draw the same thing over and over.
>you don’t need to draw well to make it in the industry
Yes
>you just need to have interesting ideas
No.
Staying on animated children's shows topic;
You just need a product that is decent enough, that can be produced fast and relatively cheap with the hope that kids will watch it.
And kids will pretty much watch anything.
And then you turn to merchandise because that's the purpose of 99% of cartoons.
If merch doesn't sell and the overall ratings are low, the show doesn't get another season.
It mostly comes down to mostly luck or the shows writing, airing time etc with these things but;
Appeal isn't creativity. Creativity doesn't (mass)appeal.
Making the nth robot people or person with superpowers or talking animal in a sitcom/slice of life setting hasn't been creative for 50 years.

The only good cartoon show i remember is Samurai Jack.
>>4753452
>but because his toons were apart of their childhoods and gives them nostalgia.
> your art is only worth what people are willing to pay
This.
There is no creativity in making bland fanart and there is no creativity in doing the same work over and over.
Of course, you can't really blame those people for trying to cash in on their past success or current fame. Everything's about money, anyway.

I wouldn't say it like that but finding my 'voice' made me feel really isolated.
I started off as a low-key horny cute OC Twitter style artist to something else entirely over the years. I did worse and worse while I got objectively better and felt more and more attrition and like I didn't belong with social media and the people on it until I dropped out. I feel really depressed about my art now. This is who I really am and I love making art like this, but at the same time I feel weirder posting my art around that I would be if it were weird fetish porn. I feel like I don't belong anywhere.

there is effort into conveying something
even fucking pepe memes are more creative than that pretentious schizodrawings.
>already had a presence before the social media
Ye, you figured it out, Sherlock.
Art was always a closed circle and if you wanted big bucks you had to set your foot in the door and talk to the right people and then you could even sell feces in a can because your name(brand) is attached to it.
Now it's not so different.

I think you can make it if you're creative, cus lots of people do. You just cant be riggid. For example you have to compensate and create something that will be interesting to a large audience, but also appeals to you. So its just learning to play within the game. Now you can always have side projects and things that are more off the wall creative and less appealing to masses. Just don't be a salty bitch and try to capture the audience and think about their needs as well.

>Butch Hartman is proof that you don’t need to draw well to make it in the industry, you just need to have interesting ideas

Butch cut his teeth doing storyboard and character concept work before he ever got an opportunity to pitch his cartoon anywhere. A lot of artists could be in the same position should they be willing to do grunt work and heavy lifting. Butch isn't a bad artist, and he's smart enough for a Network to accept at least 4 original pitches regardless of how unique or interesting the ideas are, and had a cartoon that's one of the networks single most popular properties (albeit not Spongebob tier). He's a shitty guy and can get away charging hundreds for drawings that take him less than an hour to complete. High school kids on Twitter can dunk on him for drawing >>4753620 >>4753462 all day, but none of them are close to the status he's attained, and a lot of the artists on that hashtag won't gain a hundredth of his notoriety.

If you make this argument then you have to agree that classical music is shit, jazz is shit, etc. and also that Sakimichan and Ilya are the best artists ever, because you are giving authority to what the normies think. Believe it or not, normies think that classical music is boring/kitsch and jazz that is slightly more technical than Louis Armstrong (also boring except for that Fallout son) is "random noises".
I've had normies tell me that Sargent, John Singer Sargent, is a "terrible painter" because the paintings look unfinished. The same people would hang fashion magazine tier photos on their walls.
Of course nobody on /ic/ is at the absolute bottom of artistic understanding, so I doubt this case scenario applies to this board, but that lack of understanding is replaced with antagonistic faggotry, coom addiction and the thirst for social media likes, all things that in many ways acts as an even bigger handicap than not understanding shit about art.
