Why do beginners defend loomis like brainless lifeforms? Is it because they can avoid drawing from life by copying some shitty loomis heads?

>can't understand the different between drawing from strict observation and construction
>calls other people brainless

Because Loomis introduces you to the basic forms and puts an emphasis behind the use of construction it is a good book if you know how to apply the knowledge the book gives you through observation it is not a mindless copy of blook heads.

I took 3 life drawing classes and learned more from Loomis than all of them. Construction is essential for drawing from imagination, and Loomis's books cover it well.

Loomis is a meme here, because a bunch of anons were stumbling around trying to learn, and ran across the free pdfs that were floating around the internet. Since they "discovered" it, it became the holy grail of /ic, so it's autistically clung to.

Loomis isn't "bad", per say. It's a bit outdated in style, but the concepts are still valid, and taught by many other artists in books and videos. But - those aren't free, and if /ic is anything, it's a bunch of cheapskates and broke NEETs.

I keep seeing this argument, yet the print copies of Loomis's books line my shelves (and at least one is always near my sketchbook). Those crappy PDFS that have been floating around for decades are no match for the latest printings.

That's irrelevant to my point. Loomis are still in print, yes - but the PDFs have been around forever - and easiest to find. I'm talking back when a lot of the books and videos and streamers people talk about now didn't exist yet. I've been coming to /ic for a long time.

And, you keep seeing the argument, because it's factual.

People spout loomis because you have a lot of people here symbol drawing and ask for you to rate their work as if this is Facebook

Because Loomis or similar condenses what you might learn from years of studying from life on your own. Also, it's mostly ints and pros that push studying construction on begs because they know it's useful. Studying from Loomis will literally make you better at drawing from life.

Why would you want to ignore the experience of other artists and start from square one and reinvent the wheel over and over?
