Why do some japanese animators chose to become slavewage animators rather than celebrity illustrators with unlimited earning potential?

>> No.4712843

Because the industry is full of people who will work for cheap and refuse to go on strike or demand reasonable wages. They're pussies. You think a pussy is going to give up their shitty dream job to make patreon coomerbux?

because they have a passion for that particular type of work? they want to see characters bounce to life and move around while contributing to a bigger project that could potentially go down in history of animation, especially obvious since there are tons of new animators each year despite them knowing that they'll probably make under 500 a month while working overtime

also not everyone can be an illustrator, and most definitely not an actually good one as you can see from 98% of "illustrators", it takes a very different type of mindset and skills to pursue

this is such a beg thread

>> No.4712993

>>4712828
animation is currently (or rather, has the potential to be) one of the highest art forms. illustration is something a child can do well. literally drawing pretty pictures. at some point when illustrating you’ll make something nice, unless there’s really something wrong with you. most animation that actually gets produced and made popular is pure garbage like anything else, but as a medium it has the potential to create life that is entirely within your control. if you have the ability to do that, why would you squander it on static illustrations?

You're comparing two different mediums. Actually the point is why do some very skilled animators decide to keep working for slave wages and living life of poverty when they have the potential to make it big on their own.

>> No.4713048

Different anon but it is because they like the feeling of actually having their work be in a famous show and in media many people will see. They take pride in the fact that they animated something that people will be watching for years to come

because then your precious anime wouldn't exist? obviously they do it because they have a different mindset and care more about their craft than money and are willing to work with a team to create something grand instead of churning out whatever it is you think would make more but won’t be remembered the way a film or series would.

>> No.4713788 [DELETED]

>>4713775
Haha, writing is also the foundation without which none of those other things could exist. Except illustration I guess, but actually most illustration with a good concept does require some kind of writing in the beginning stages.

However, I think anon means that animation has superior potential because it combines so many artforms. So he'd probably put comics above illustration and writing. In that case, why not put video games or virtual reality above them all?

Words and language are abstract concepts without an actual form. It is less an expression of the artist than it is a mere suggestion for the reader to fill in their own expression. Writing is akin to illustration that used purely symbol drawing, or a music score without performance.

Maybe if you're an engineer.

Not all STEM is created equal, especially not when it comes to curiosity/creativity. Some of it is far harder on practical application than others (though even in practical application you can have creativity and soul).

Obviously there will be 'soulless' aspects of learning, it's the same with learning your fundies in art. You need the learn the tools to use the tools.

engineers aren’t like cock gobbling artists who have to label themselves ARTist. I HATE people who call it STEM or people who say they are in STEM. If you are in it, you don’t label yourself. You are part of the normal functioning part of society that contributes to improving how it operates.

Only dumb fucks who can’t do work of tangible value identify people and industries as STEM.
